Simpson is a 3rd Rd pick 10 yrs ago. This is a very bizarre draft pick by a team that close to the super bowl.

When teams like GB did this with HOF QBs and drafted a 1st rounder as the future, they did it with guys who had elite traits like Rodgers and Love.

Simpson has none of that...

Why are we thinking that McVay is going to leave the Rams when Stafford retires? Where is he going to go?

But apparently their front office and scouting dept. saw enough in Simpson to think he can be the successor to Stafford. We’ll see how it plays out.

Or the GM is comprised. Not a big fan of McVay or the Rams but kinda hope he bolts over this.

He has many options. Sit out a year and a half dozen teams will be knocking on your door next off-season.

All the more reason for you to go out and enjoy life without being anchored to coaching as a super rich dude in LA

He knows he can make similar money in TV and pick his next spot whenever he gets the itch again if he does retire

Yes, several years in a row there have been rumors of him retiring for TV

TV is a sweet gig man. He's already been paid a lot of money at a young age, and he could do TV for 20 years getting paid huge money without having to do the insane work of an NFL HC

Is McVay retiring soon and selfishly wants someone ready to contribute now?

He probably saw the CCG and Rose Bowl film and threw up.

One of the better GMs at drafting over the past decade is compromised?

You think he'd go behind Paxton Lynch and Christian Hackenberg? Jacoby Brisset? Cody Kessler?

If so, that says more about "10 years ago" than today. Simpson is a fast processor and accurate, which is necessary in today's more advanced offenses.

Literally any player who is going to contribute to the 2026 team
'
The guard from PSU could contribute, Bain could provide pass rush. Could have taken your 3rd WR to help Stafford a bit more in Lemon,

Any player who plays non garbage time snaps will have more impact barring in jury than Simpson in 2026

You have to balance long term with short term. Yes at some point Stafford won't be the QB but he's the reigning MVP of the NFL and you already have a backup that is "fine".

People are way overreacting to this pick. Matthew Stafford is 38, had a mysterious back injury last offseason that kept him from practice basically all of the preseason, and has been hinting at retirement for like 2 seasons now. Let’s say they draft the TE from Oregon and he has a great rookie season; 700ish yards 5 tds. Do we really think that’s going to be the difference if they win the SB or not? And then now they are drafting 28+ with a 39 yo QB who’s most likely headed to retirement.

McVay knows he’s leaving when Stafford is done. He probably doesn’t care that Snead drafted Simpson only a little annoyed they didn’t use the first on a guy that could help them. Seahawks fans are probably ecstatic.

The Rams window closes after 2026. They have several key defensive players that won’t be able to be extended due to the cap, and they don’t have the cap resources to pay Stafford, McDuffie, Nacua all at once. Plus most of their o line is free agents next year,

They are in full rebuild mode in 2027 and I doubt Sean is around for that. No idea why they’d wanna rebuild around Simpson anyway. Even if they draft like 25th or lower in 2027 they can still find a better QB than Simpson outside of the 1st round then,

Simpson wouldn’t have even started at Bama if he came back. One of the worst picks of All Time.

Lemon. Davante Adams is super old and Puka has off the field issues and durability concerns with the way he plays. They absolutely need a #2 WR.

OT would have also been a good fit. They had to play DJ Humphries last year for one game vs the Falcons and he was a disaster. If any of their tackles go down this year they are done.

I'm not sure that he fits their offense, as good as he can be in the right system

Wishful thinking

Lemon is likely going to be slot only for at least a few years, which is Puka's territory.

You just created a scenario where the Rams are no longer in win-now mode to justify a win-now mode selection.

There should be an agreed upon strategy but many coaches are terrible GMs.

The goal for the GM is presumably long term. For the typical head coach that's not a problem unless tanking for picks costs him the job
