I was thinking having him as First Rounder was an extreme reach to begin with. He's just not that good. Mendoza was maybe marginally better. Neither is worth the money they are going to get. I actually thought Mendoza was a better fit for the Rams than Simpson.

Simpson will be backing up someone at another team in 3-4 years.....Mendoza probably as well. Rams taking Simpson at 13 was a waste of money and I still maintain that he should have stayed at Alabama another year. This bullshite of drafting on potential is just that. I'm not changing my mind on it unless I'm proven wrong on the field.

How far down could the Rams have traded and still got Simpson?

I don’t hate the kid.
He’s a good QB.

BUT I think he might have been there at pick 28 or maybe even early round 2.

Time will tell.

Sean McVay comes across as a major douchbag

Very punchable looks on his face

I am not seeing an issue here. The GM has a solid track record and I believe he picked Simpson for potential over friendship. He's not going to jeopardize his reputation over a relationship.

McVay has talked of retirement so why would a GM give him a lot of say so in who is drafted. I wouldn't. Simpson has the tools to develop into a decent pro QB, let's see.
