It’s crazy he’s been gone from ESPN since 2019

Simmons will be fine.

It's football season. Cousin Sal and House can carry him through a lot of the next few months.

Lowe is better than Russillo in terms of NBA deep dive and knowledge, but Russillo had more personality.

It will never happen but I would like more Chris Vernon and Simmons.

I’ve gotten tired of Simmons. I used to look past the insane Boston homerism, but it is extremely irritating and makes him pretty much unlistenable anytime a Boston-adjacent subject comes up. He also feels like he’s getting smarmier as he’s getting older. Or maybe that’s a side effect of moving to LA.

Anyway, I’m not shocked. I think Russillo is a better listen, and he probably sees more upside with the Barstool guys.

Havent been listening to russillo a ton this summer as he has pretty much ignored college football but I do think this is a good move for him.

He fits in better with Big Kat, PFT and that crew than the Ringer crew.

He was always way too much of a bro for The Ringer.

He joined them at the same time the rank and file were trying to unionize and I remember they got sooooooooo pissed at that. They were fighting for all of this shite and then of course a huge name gets a good deal because it was a big get from ESPN and of course they were super jealous. I remember that being pretty funny. I think he got the job shortly after appearing on their Rewatchables podcast for The Town.

I posted this on the Rewatchables subreddit yesterday morning and it got deleted for being unsubstantiated and also because I said the ringer staff was too limp wristed for Russillo.

Ugh.

I love Russillo. I hate most things Barstool puts out. I don't gamble and I've aged out of most of their content.

I'll trust that Russillo will still be the same.

Sucks for the Ringer. Russillo's pod and the Rewatchables was about the only pods left that still listened to weekly.

I remember meeting him in Austin for the LSU/Texas game back in 2019.

He was such an a-hole but I think he was having a rough day for whatever reason.

I haven’t listened to the RW in months. Felt like they stopped doing good movies and when they do have solid movies now they stoped doing the key 3 and add Van Latham in who is sooooo annoying. Of course the Reddit simps gobble him up.

I've aged out of most of their content, and don't listen to PMT anymore. It does seem that they have toned down the gambling talk drastically since they are no longer owned by a gaming company.

I do listen to Mostly Sports sometimes since TBob was on occasionally and that is decent.

Russillo will be the same and is basically getting his own production company in the deal

Barstool just seems like some kind of Howard Stern whack pack now, but then Dave does get these deals every once in a while to re-legitimize the company (gambling, Fox). I would think Russillo can just start a pod anywhere, but the money must be right and/or Dave is throwing a bunch of resources at it.

Correct but also its 2025.

It's ok now to come work for Barstool.. it's not as much of a "pirate ship" as it use to be as the sports content world is not as mainstream

It's ok now....

So great pivot by Barstool to make these moves and if continue to add to their base like this they could make a leap again as the last few years they have just "been"..

Russillo always has the best background in all of his videos. I guess that is the benefit from having a beach house. But it's always sunny with waves crashing behind him. I'm going to feel super dumb ifs it's computer generated somehow..

Yep and look at ESPN trying to keep up by hiring former Barstool talent. The sports media market is trending more towards Barstool and podcasting world.

ESPN hires McAffee for Gameday.

Fox responds by hiring Portnoy and Barstool for Big Noon Kickoff and a daily morning show.

ESPN responds by hiring Bussin With the Boys to begin appearing on Get Up. It's funny how ESPN is hiring PMT knockoff 8 or so years after canceling the real thing with Barstool Van Talk.

He's probably a Mt. Rushmore of recurring guests on PMT.

Barstool has done a solid job solidifying their bona fides for sport analysis with Gruden, Mark Titus, T-Bob, and now Russillo.
