You defended what he said by saying the long version showed it was a joke. I agree it was a joke but short or long it could be seen incorrectly by people.. I’m saying it’s acceptable to bag on him bc of his hypocrisy in calling out others for the same hyperbole …. personally don’t care as I’m immune to Dave’s rants about people as it’s pure theatre for him

Pete Carroll was aware of the line and kicked the ball to frick over people who bet on Denver. There is no other reason. The stadium had a lot of Denver fans there too.

It's an extremely unlikely way to win but at that point it was the only possible way to do it. I'd rather my team play to the whistle and still try no matter how unlikely than to run a pointless play that ends the game regardless of it's success. It's the same reason I'll never be mad if a coach uses their timeouts to force a team to kneel multiple times in the hopes they fumble the snap.

If there's 7 seconds left, everybody knows it's the right call. I don't know why it's a significantly better call with 5 seconds left to do the opposite. If someone can explain the benefits of that, I'll listen to it. I just don't know what they are.

I think Pete had a brain fart. I'm hoping he must have thought there was still like 15seconds on the clock. Kick a fg with about 8 seconds left/ Recover an onside with 2 sec. hail mary try.
BTW, I think it's pretty obvious Portnoy doesn't really want Pete murdered and was being an over-emotional gambling addict in the moment. It's haters looking for something, digging for that gotcha.

Before I quit watching the NFL, there was a game a five or six years ago where the Rams did this. I don't remember who they were playing, but the spread was LA +7.5. They were down 10. Drove the ball almost to the red zone, then kicked a FG as time expired (3-4 seconds left, so clearly just enough time for one play only). Lost by 7 but if you bet on the Rams, you won. Gamblers went ape shite. I laughed.

After listening to the whole thing, it turns out that it was nothing more than a douchebag whose entire lifestyle is funded by gambling telling his audience of degenerate gamblers that someone needed to be murdered.

The refs inexplicably call a roughing penalty on the FG. That extends the game. Then the head linesman gets a message in his earpiece from a FanDuel exec. He demand the official time-keepers "put back 2:00 on the clock" and "do what you have to do."
Remember, the NFL is "entertainment".
