Regardless of what happened, fans are getting very brazen, and think a pay day can be had by getting hit by an athlete.
The shite yelled at athletes is way worse than I heard growing up and going to games. Many would try to zing them with shite that might get them riled up, now some just try to get a negative, physical response from athletes. " I fricked your mom, metcalf" are the old days, now it gets personal and ugly.

Try having a poor outing in the minors and see what fans say
They know your parents, gf, your grades from HS, everything And they get creative with it. How was that guy able to say all this shite without any of those fans saying something? I cannot even fathom that in my section and nobody saying anything or getting them immediately banned.

So apparently, we are supposed to believe this fan was saying these things with other fans in the next seats 2 feet away from him.
And none of these other fans blinked, moved a muscle or acted like anything was about to happen between the fan and Metcalf.
Seems like if a punch/fight was imminent due to abusive language, the other fans would have been stepping back under the premise of: Oh shite. It's about to go down.

Security could have easily told blue hair to put a lid on it and sit down.
I have seen obnoxious behavior from 'fans' that was an embarrassment not only to themselves but to the home team fans.
Plus its aggravating because I want to watch the game and enjoy the moment, not listen to some knucklehead harass the opposing team.

This is completely on Metcalf, going over and getting face to face shite talking with a fan is just asking for trouble. The fan has nothing to lose, you do. He's gonna shite talk you and try to provoke a reaction and that's what he got.
