Dirk is pretty much the only champion to win it all without another All-NBA level player on his team in the modern era.

Ben Wallace was the only all NBA player on the 2004 Pistons.

Rasheed wasn't all NBA?

That was a very good core for sure:

Rip
Chauncey
The Wallaces
Prince

They may not have been all NBA that season, but I think 4/5 of those guys were multiple time all stars.

That was a team that was the epitome of a lot of good players who fit perfectly without a great player.

Although both Wallaces and Prince were great defenders, I don't think any of them really was ever great on the whole. Those 3 might be the best defensive front line ever in their prime.

its just such a stupid argument when people play the "take pippen away" card. Ok are we to assume the Bulls would have signed no one else in this imaginary scenario? You can't remove one puzzle piece and then assume everything else plays out as it did.

I was skimming the thread ready to post this same thing.

Are they swapping Pippen with the other team's 2nd best player, or simply removing Pippen from the Bulls and adding to an already great roster that is playing in the NBA Finals?

Does Pippen develop under Jordan and then get removed and added to the other team, or does he get drafted and have to develop with that other team? Seems pretty clear that his development heavily involved playing and practicing with Jordan on a daily basis.

One of these is not like the others, and not just because he wasn't on the 1991 Lakers.

Just seeing who is paying attention. Everyone knows Kareem was washed up at that point.

It's simpler than that, IMO. No one player is good enough to win a title.

MJ needed Pippen and Grant/Rodman. Pippen needed MJ and Grant/Rodman.

Every title team to ever win has a couple really good/great players. No exceptions. Dirk had a great run in 2011, but Terry, Marion and Chandler also played at really high levels.

Wasn't Pippen pretty much washed by the '98 Finals?

Those numbers don’t tell the whole story. Pippen was an excellent defender. Sure he was there to score but his job was being a lockdown type defender.

No. He was still as good a defender as ever and had 19 ppg on a 20+ PER despite coming back from rehab midseason.
