This is such a stupid way to look at shite. But it’s a fine example of the front running nature of our society. You only do what everyone else is doing…

So you don’t want to watch these games because it’s schools that don’t ever make it this far? I don’t understand that line of thinking. Just because it’s not a blue blood school? Why?

I’ll be watching but I imagine ratings will be pretty rough. Guess they are paying after having UNC, Duke, Kansas, and Villanova last year.

They will still be good games. This tournament has been great

New blood is always good. It keeps things fresh. And it is called March Madness for a reason. It definitely lived up to that this year.

And oddly enough, very few buzzers beaters and overtime games. Lot of upsets though.

You still normally get a blue blood or power team in the Final Four most years.

Less likely going forward with transfer portal and NIL

San Diego State, Miami, and FAU. 3 of the 4 programs making their first Final Four in program history this year. Pretty insane stuff

"I hate seeing Bama, Clemson and Ohio State in the CFP every year"

Also

"This Final Four sucks because no blueboods are in it"

Some folks need to make up their minds

You don’t consider UCONN a blue blood? How many titles have they won in the last 25 years or so? 4? 5?

yes...now that Texas is out, I should be able to score decent tickets to the championship game...

Bc I’m a casual fan. I like seeing the best players having unbelievable performances. Typically those players are on the “blue blood” rosters. With some exceptions of course

Just having a Cinderella for the sake of upsets does not interest me as it does for others. Not sure why it’s better or worse to pull for the best teams or the worst teams to succeed. To me, it’s the same

Well those four teams made it, and at some point, had to beat those who are considered "the elite of the sport".

Perhaps. One upset against Alabama doesn’t make you elite in my mind. For example, the rest of SD St matchups were:

Charleston
Furman
Creighton

That makes you elite? I guess they can prove it by beating FAU??

I don’t believe these teams are the elite of the sport so it’s less interesting to me.

So why are they in the Final Four and UNC and Kentucky aren’t?

Should they just have the tournament and once the elite 8 is done, you just let UNC and Kentucky play in the Final Four without earning anything?

What a ridiculous take.

They're not included in the traditional list of blue bloods, no. This Final Four puts them at six, equal to Arkansas. Winning the championship is obviously a big deal but they don't have near the sustained success of the traditional blue bloods.

I'd rather watch this, than listen to the announcers cream themselves over UNC, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, etc. I'll actually watch this entire Final Four and Championship Game.

That is not what he said, he said to get there, these teams had to beat elite teams. Since you brought up SDSU, yes, they beat the overall number one. Miami beat a No. 1. FAU didn't get the opportunity, but beat the team that beat the No. 1. And UConn is UConn.

The issue with your line of logic is that it means a couple of things.

One being that teams can only be judged on "the elite" teams being around in their bracket. But what is "elite" in a snapshot? UNC was worse than Creighton this year, but their name means more than on-court reality? Because UVA got taken out by a team SDSU went through, no credit goes to them for going through them?

And two, does this mean that "elite" teams get auto-passes for having an easy path? Let's hold your logic another way. What about Kansas last year? One of the easiest paths, ever, to a title, period. Their road to the final four was absolutely pathetic, and when they got there, they faced a short-handed Nova, and a Carolina team that got hot but was an 8 seed. So their road will likely be an easier road than any team in the FF this year if they win a title. But that is fine, because they themselves are "elite"? It's a weird double standard and shows bias for legacy programs.

Now, will there be lower viewership because very large basketball fanbases won't be tuning in to watch their teams? Sure. But the teams in this Final Four earned their way in, it is just a fact.

I think all would agree that the quality of college basketball is really poor, especially compared to the greatness of the 90s that many of us grew up with.

Yes, I’d much rather watch a final 4 comprised of 4 amazing teams (similar to what we’d often get in the 90s), than a bunch of lower seeded underdogs.

However, given the state of college basketball, we aren’t going to get that. Sure, every so often there’s a generational type team like 2018 Villanova, but those squads have been few and far between. So, might as well have total chaos like this year’s final 4.

I would assume most people watching are casual fans. And they might get a boost in ratings most years because many casual fans watch for their bracket implications.

But this year, everyone’s bracket is in shambles and a winner in each person’s pool is probably already decided. So the casual fan might not be as interested.

UConn is 100% a blue blood, even with most of their success coming in the last 25 years. The entire point is winning championships.

100% on board with this. You play to win Championships.

If they win this year they’d have 5 titles in the past 25 years, in comparison
Kentucky - 2
UNC - 3
Duke - 3
Kansas - 2

Indiana and UCLA have zero titles in that span.
