I’ll be watching but I imagine ratings will be pretty rough. Guess they are paying after having UNC, Duke, Kansas, and Villanova last year.

Are there really such things as casual NCAA basketball fans, though?

I mean if you live in NYC (just to name one example) you root for maybe the school you went to or if it didn't have basketball maybe you become a subway alumni of St Johns or Fordham or Seton Hall or Iona.

But you either like it or not. So I think if you are a fan even a casual fan - you wont say I wont watch this year because North Carolina is not in it.

Of course that does not apply to fans of ONLY a team and when their team is out, they stop watching. But they would be gone regardless.

They are still getting those ad dollars. It doesn't matter how many people watch. They are still going to make a lot of money

I’m a casual fan and I doubt I’ll watch much. My brackets are done and these matchups don’t interest me. I’ll check my app and if it’s close under 4 to go, I’ll put it on.

If Kentucky was playing UNC, I’d be more interested in watching. I don’t believe these teams are the elite of the sport so it’s less interesting to me.

That's not entirely true. They typically have clauses built into advertising agreements that state if X number of people don't watch the game then we will refund X amount of your dollars.

Well those four teams made it, and at some point, had to beat those who are considered "the elite of the sport".

More intrigue though. My wife has watched 3 total basketball games in her life. Arkansas Gonzaga and Arkansas Kansas. Arkansas and Uconn.

She was amazed by Uconn she wanted to watch them in the Elite 8. She hates sports.

She's not even a casual fan.

You still normally get a blue blood or power team in the Final Four most years. But this year is a great breakup from that and part of what makes March Madness great.

Speaking for myself, i'd rather watch these games than the watching the same 6 - 8 every year.

Americans love an underdog story.

I’m a less than casual fan. I watched all 4 games this weekend because it wasn’t the “same ol same ol”

Same with final 4. Didn’t watch a minute last year or any this year until this past weekend.

Oddly enough most of the games have been great and I expect the FF to follow suit.

Don't worry, you will have your own 64-team P5-only affair soon enough.

Late stage capitalism.

I think it's great for the sport.

New blood is always good. It keeps things fresh. And it is called March Madness for a reason. It definitely lived up to that this year.
