Athletics has been the nickname since 1901. I would like to see them keep the name but I don’t know how it would gel in LV.

Why wouldn’t it?

I can see them leaning into the black alternate unis more like the other Vegas teams. But I’d be surprised if they change much else and it would be disappointing if they do. I’ve fallen asleep during many a late summer night to Astros games in the old O Co and the rhythmic drum beats and vuvuzelas. Finally it will be gone

I haven't read on whether the stadium will be open air or retractable roof, but they're going to have a similarly difficult time attracting free agent pitchers as the Rockies do.

Yes thinking a mascot should be something that fits the city more is completely ludacris.

I don’t mind athletics. If they keep it cool. I just like aces for Vegas better.

Has to be retractable roof. Vegas I think is more similar to Phoenix which has some issues but nothing like Denver and the elevation they’re at.

It will be fascinating to see if they try to pump some money/excitement in as this move gets closer and actually pursue some higher profile free agents. The A’s have constantly gone through rebuild/get good/trade everyone off and rebuild again and you kind of take for granted how cheap they are as someone who roots for a team in their division. Their front office does a pretty good job with the resources they are given by ownership so they could be kind of scary if they actually spend money.

Forgot about the wnba team. That’d be a problem.

Minor league would be less of an issue since mlb controls that directly now.

It's incredible how city politics can go completely contrary to fan interest. The Seattle Supersonics is such a cautionary tale. Those folks knew that the hammer was about to drop on their beloved Sonics and they didn't ante up. Oakland is proving to be just a poor suburb across the Bay Bridge.

Beat me to it. It was a city that always had potential to rival San Francisco until the late 60’s. After that it slowly sank it being the Gary or Newark of the Bay Area. The hipsters never fully tried gentrification of Oakland. When they don’t want to move in you know the area is beyond repair.

Well most of Oakland is a shithole. I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

How much of this is, the Bay Area don't need all these teams? Can they support all these teams?

They have a huge population, but more importantly a metric shite ton of corporate dollars. They can support all those teams, if they want to.

$1 beer night was epic at Cashman. Like watching baseball game with boxing matches going on in the stands. Then you run the risk of getting shanked walking to the parking lot. Ah, the good old days.

What I read says it will be a partially retractable roof. And the lease in Oakland runs through 2024. Isn't Las Vegas the same elevation as Phoenix?

The site they are proposing is about 1000' higher than Chase Field in Phoenix... but what does that have to do with a roof?

Someone else asked if it was going to be enclosed. And said they would have a hard time attracting UFA pitchers.
