Not hoping he fails at all. I hope he wins LSU 3 more national titles. Just saying from a historical perspective, LSU didn't make a wise hire.

There is no way to look at this hire (and Johnny Jones's ... and the Duke lacrosse scandal) other than what it is: an inept attempt by an arrogant, lazy AD who should be shown the door.

Well the previous coaches before Sutcliffe he hired eon like a total of 3 games. And he backed the baseball coach at Duke after he was caught giving players steroids.

And that whole he was on the boat his son was driving when he got arrested for drinking and operating a boat.

But yeah, no red flags prior to being hired at LSU.

You said it was a stat for concern. I suppose more info would help. If it's Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, and Iowa State that was the second power 5 stop, then who gives a crap about this stat. The one example you gave was Alabama being successful. That is a similar situation IMHO. Until the stat seems relevant to me, I still say frick that stat.

The fact that some LSU fans hope he fails makes me uneasy.

No one hopes that he fails. If we look back in 5 years, and Orgeron's tenure has been an improvement over Miles's last few years, then everyone will be ecstatic, and the negativity will be restricted to old classics like profanity in the student section.

The negativity after the hire is warranted for those of us who suspect that the program will decline under Orgeron's tenure, because his previous experience was so disastrous. Even the most optimistic fan concedes that success will require us to maintain a revolving door of elite assistants to handle all of the nitty gritty coaching stuff, and even a program of LSU's stature has a pretty spotty record of maintaining that on both offense and defense.

But I've identified only 19 Power 5 schools in the past 50 years that hired a head coach who had been fired or forced out by another Power 5 school. Of those 19 coaches, one won a national championship.

This guy was "forced out" by a Power 5 school too....but I guess World Championships aren't national championships.

This guy got fired by 2 NFL Teams.....but those aren't considered "Power 5" teams....

Wasn't Lou Holtz fired by Arkansas before winning at Notre Dame.

Also sucked the Patriots gave Belichick a chance after being fired at Cleveland.

An obvious difference between Belichick and Orgeron in this comparison is that another team tried to hire Belichick.

I'm not uneasy with your "stats". It's real simple - he performs, he stays. He no perform - he no stay.

Miles was a expedited and cheap hire...sounds familiar, doesn't it.

Pete Carroll took the Pats to the playoffs twice in his 3 seasons and won the division once.

Hoodie Bill took the Browns to the AFC title game.

Switzer won 3 nattys at OU.

O was owned by Vandy.

one of these is not like the others.

one of these guys is completely different than the others.

Only one coach won more than one division championship at his second-chance school. Yep, Stallings, who won four SEC West titles in seven seasons with the Crimson Tide.

And Stallings had a better record. He won the SWC with the Aggies.

he was forced out for political reasons.

a few years back someone on XM radio said it had something to do with a candidate he endorsed and made commercials for.

don't remember the candidate or office, but basically it was turned into a racial issue and he was forced out.

You Orgeron apologists are really something. Now you are resetting the standard by which we measure success (and/or the firing of Les Miles).

quote:

Will he won the West? Tough row to hoe as long as Uncle Nicky is up the road.

So now it is OK for LSU to lose to Alabama because Saban is their coach!!! WOW.

quote:

Will he win the SEC? See above

Will he win a Natty? See above

It is now also OK for LSU not to win the west OR a national championship!! WOW.

You folks who are BLIND Alleva/Orgeron supporters are really something else. Sports writers around the country (and local) are saying the SAME thing....Why did we hire a D Line coach who was unemployed a couple of years ago because NOBODY wanted him?????????

Honest question, if we had gotten Herman, would Coach O had been a consideration to replace him at Houston?

doubtful.
a year ago he publicly begged for the Syracuse job and didn't even get an interview.
