Yamin looked silly on every one of those pitches

Am I crazy, or was he too far off the plate/too open with his stance?

seems like a mini miracle to get out only down 1 run there

When I saw that catcher come up to bat, I was fairly sure they were about to clear the bases.

Why hasn’t Rizy pitched?

Wow things are truly desperate.

Noot needs to find it, and quick

If by ‘it’, you mean the barrel for all of these MSU hitters, then he has found it reliably so far.

Oh my, if Noot is coming in then I can only imagine we are going to see a multi-run HR.

This team is expert at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. It’s really incredible.

The leg to stand on is winning 2 national titles in the last 3 years(about to be 4 years). Every ad in america would take 2 seasons just like this year if it meant you had just won 2 of the last 4 national titles. The best coaches in college baseball right now, except corbin, don't have multiple national titles in their entire career.

Take a look at John Savage’s record, who is as primed as anyone to get a second title this year. It took him about 10 years to get back to the CWS last year. In 2024, UCLA was 19-33 and 9-21 in the Pac-12.

I’m so done with Jay.

I’m with you, it’s so hard dealing with a shitty season after only two national titles in three years. Maybe we can see if Mike Bianco is still available, and maybe Andy Cannizzaro can be an assistant.

Probably trying to give the talented freshman some experience in a lost season, dont mind it

Harden is a JUCO transfer - he’s a junior.

Hell.he was in the same situation 2 years ago, and 4. Just no consistency year to year. Think he was pretty hot and cold at Arizona as well.

2 years ago, his team was one out away from hosting a Super Regional. Very different situation.
Yamin is in the Tyler Moore vortex.

what on earth is this kid doing in college

He’s got a 6.30 ERA (though a modest 1.70 WHIP). He hasn’t been this shutdown until facing us. Every sophomore pitcher on our team (including Williams and Rizy) put up a better stat line as freshmen last year.

This is probably not the worst LSU baseball team of all time, by any stretch, but it is very possibly the most frustrating LSU team of all time in this context.
I think we all knew that this 7-2 lead was not long for this world.

Problem with drafting guys from small schools is they aren’t used to pressure like this.

You mean Dallas Baptist, in the case of Benge? We’ve had several successful pitchers from schools with much less of a successful track record.
More How to Lose Awareness
quote:

There is a global psychological issue with this entire team this year. I see multiple players who won a national championship last year who are now just run of the mill guys. Stanny led the SEC with n doubles last year and is now batting like .230. Cavan Evans has had one good start the whole year against any competition. Even Brown’s average was dropping like a stone before he got hurt. This is a global psychological/cultural issue or you would otherwise see parts of the team performing well.

Alternatively, maybe Stanfield is still pushing through a more serious injury (and re-injury) than was indicated, and alternatively, maybe Brown was trying to play through injury as well. This is going to the last season of college baseball for both of these guys.

Evans was not a sure Friday-night starter going into the season; I think it’s simply that no one else has stepped up to take that role from him, and he has a high ceiling if he can put it together consistently.
quote:

Jay already took responsibility for this - he said it was bad roster construction. He was chasing power numbers to replace Jones and Frey, and it didn't work out. What he failed to realize is that those power numbers didn't come from the approach that Jay likes to implement. Simple as that.

That seems like a big part of it, and is probably about as forthright as you can expect from a coach.

I think this years team can be summed up by HOLA - How to Lose Awareness. If you look at the expected wins of each SEC team, and you think back to several of the close games that we’ve dropped, there are so many moments where we’ve come up short when we’re primed to win. So many late game defensive blunders, so many atrocious at-bats in advantaged situations - this all goes back to the roster construction.

I also think that defensive lapses at catcher throughout the season have exacerbated this, and have really hurt the pitching performances (thinking of all the exaggerated framing and lack of reliable receiving). I feel like most other teams have a savvy defensive catcher with lackluster numbers, whereas we’ve cycled through two inexperienced catchers with great offensive potential (and performance), but doing no favors for the pitchers.

We should realistically be a mid-tier SEC team right now looking to make a run as we approach the postseason, but they’ve dug themselves too much of a hole, and we still don’t have the timely hitting and solid defensive play to change the outcome of these games.
I really don’t understand what is going on with the pitching decisions. I feel like Benge and Fontenot were pulled earlier than I’d expect.
quote:

Dardar. He was 2nd team All Big 12 coming in.

Dardar was at least a key part of winning multiple games, and as far as I can recall, has played about as well defensively as any told the other 2B options (which is not saying much).
