There is no way to look at this hire (and Johnny Jones's ... and the Duke lacrosse scandal) other than what it is: an inept attempt by an arrogant, lazy AD who should be shown the door.

Sure they do-- Saban, Dietzel, Johhnny Majors, Mack Brown all had losing records or close to .500 their first 3 years. They all won National Championships after they sucked.

From my other thread. Sabans 62% is not close to a losing record.

Majors and deitzel improved greatly from years 1 to 3. O got worse. And once again, O would be 2nd to the worst on this list if he wins an NC.

So..1 out of 19 won a national championship? That seems a hell of a lot better odds than the overall percentage of p5 coaches who won a national championship in the same period.

Hey dumbass, the article is about unsuccessful head coaches pushed out ofntheir first jobs. Not NC coaches in their first gig. Read please, then post

he west once while Saban is at Bama and average 9 wins for the four years, this will be a success. No matter what or who we hired, we aren't going to be dominant in the Bama rivalry until Saban hangs up his whistle.
. This is defeatist thinking that will lead LSU down the primrose path to overwhelming mediocrity. If everyone's ok with this then this is what we'll get, if that. I'm not so sure that o will even be able to win 9 games consistently.

Well, I wouldn't compare the Ole Miss situation to the current LSU situation

LSU is loaded with Talent, a talent rich state...

If LSU keeps reeling in top 5 classes, changes the OC and keeps Aranda, I expect to O to have a lot of success.

Looking at the past, other programs, other coaches, other eras, that really isn't a predictor of what will happen under O.

sorry, but I can hear Saban now,- preaching his Catastrophic syndrome speech he often referenced when at LSU.

I mean,- can the argument be made that Saban only had 1 season at LSU where he did't lose at least 3 games in 5 seasons, yet would be considered the greatest coach of all time today? who saw that coming 12 years ago?

Ole Miss isn't O's fault because it is Ole Miss Bo coach will have success there. Ole Miss will always be a dumpster fire that will never beat the likes of LSU and Alabama.

Saban was 21-13

He lost an average of more than 4 games a year his first 3 seasons. And he has improved greatly over that. Hasn't he?

All the four coaches you mentioned had never been FIRED, the whole point of the thread.

This place would have Saban fired after 3 years of an average of 4 or more losses. Which just goes to show how ridiculous your stat is. coaches improve. The stats bear it out. Will O improve bc others have? Of course not. Will O fail bc others have? Of course not. Let's wait and see instead of being a bunch of nervous Nellies.

O is the next Saban just you watch, he will be better than Belichick as well. What he did at Ole Miss was build the success that Freeze is having now. O is a masterful recruiter and Saban sucked till LSU gave him a chance.

Look inside the numbers. Saban was 9-2 at Toledo. Then at Mich St he was 6-5-1 in year one and 6-6 in year 2. In today's coaching world, that gets a coach fired. I dare say, with the same 3 year stretch-- LSU would fire O.

Stop trying to predict failure with stats. Just bc others have failed or succeeded, has no bearing on what CEO will do. Or you can be like Chicken Little.

Yeah Saban sucked, LSU made Saban. No one wanted him before he was hired. Michigan State was a great program before Saban arrived and made them average.

Yep....he inherited the defending 11-5 AFC Champions and went 10-6, 9-7 and 8-8 before Kraft cut his losses. He left the Pats with a team so depleted that Hoodie Bill was able to do no better than 5-11.

Saban was owned by UAB and ULM with much better teams that Orgeron's Ole Miss teams. shite happens.

Honest question, if we had gotten Herman, would Coach O had been a consideration to replace him at Houston?

Considering Houston's last 5 hires, Orgeron was probably more qualified than any of them. Dimel? A marginal WAC/Mountain West HC? Sumlin was a CO-Offensive coordinator with no previous HC experience. Levine - an inside hire that coached special teams? Briles was only 3 years removed from coaching HS football with nothing more than 3 years as a position coach at the college level. Even Herman was a bit of a risk with no prior HC experience. I think the consensus among everybody was that, based on Orgeron's 2 interim gigs is that he had earned another shot as HC somewhere,....... certainly somewhere better than a stepping stone job like Houston.

Although if he loses to rivals as he did with the Trojans (Notre Dame and UCLA) and this season with the Tigers (Alabama and Florida), they won't want Orgeron for long.

So I guess everyone we lose to is deemed our rival? I mean we beat the two teams we have rivalry trophies with and the team recently added to rekindle and old rivalry.

If you don't think Alabama and Florida are more rivals to LSU than Ole Miss and Arkansas, I seriously question your fandom over the last 20 years.
