Ole Miss beat Alabama a couple of times because they had a very good passing game
Totally agree. All the games that Bama has lost over the last 7 years have been with elite QB play. Except the GOTC, which was won with incredible defense and athletic QB play. Newton, Manziel, Kelly, Cardale Jones, etc..
Elite, Athletic QB's who can throw it accurately are the only way to beat Bama because they make the defense account for them.
Nonetheless, Bama still wins most of their games against Elite QB's. they are just that good.
2/5 would be a great record vs. Bama for the next 5 years. No matter what coach we hired.

I'll say it again... Assuming Saban stays at Bama for 5 more years, given that three of those games will be in Tusky, the absolute best ANY coach we could have hired from a reasonable standpoint could expect to win is 2 of those 5 games. Orgeron has proven that he can be dominant against the rest of the West. And he will likely keep us stocked with Talent until Saban retires so we'll be in good position to have a run when Saban goes, whether or not CEO is the long term solution as coach.
Saban is simply the best college football coach of all time. 2/5 would be a resounding success. Period.
ding, ding, ding!!! TRUTH!!

College football abyss.....it is where we are heading.
I'll support O, but 90's history will repeat.

This would be true of anyone we hired. I stand by my contention that there isn't a reasonable name we could have gotten that would take more than 2/5 against Bama is Saban remains for that duration.
Making a hire like this because we don't expect to win is ridiculous. You take a risk, you go for broke and try to identify who the next big coach is.
Otherwise, you're just settling to lose.

If Ed can win the west once while Saban is at Bama and average 9 wins for the four years, this will be a success. No matter what or who we hired, we aren't going to be dominant in the Bama rivalry until Saban hangs up his whistle.
Aiming high.
All this means is consistent 7-5 or 6-6 records will be ok if 9 wins is the expected best we can get. What's 2 less wins? It really isn't that much.
If we expect 11 wins and get 7 that's a problem. 9 to 7? Meh, pretty much the same.

Loser mentality. Great.
Let's just concede the division and any success until Saban leaves. Or you know, we could have done a legit coaching search, spend some money, and put lsu in the best position to beat Bama.
But know our AD and idiots like you and the guy your praising are OK with pissing into the wind

What's funny is a 9 win average is terrible.
In an average year, we play 4 ooc cupcakes, 2 to 3 shite sec teams, and 3 to 4 legit sec teams. Take the low amount of crappy sec teams we play and O only needs to go 3-3 against the teams on our schedule that have a pulse.

And he would be here for 10 years if he averages 9 wins a year. Honestly, I think if he averages 8, he'll be impossible to get rid of.

STATS were always for the kids that only got to get in the game a few times and had a decent go at it. however, they were normally second stringers whose parents used their stats to get them a starting position. you know.......those parents that always bring up the stats to the head coach to prove that their little johnie is statistically better than the others. meanwhile, little johnie knows deep down inside that he can't compete with the starters and that it was a fluke when he had the chance. but.....low and behold......his parents continued to try their best to promote johnie.
how's your parents nowadays? are they still regretting that you had to pull a wedgie out of your arse everyday? are they still pissed at that coach?
How's the plant life baw?

3 years isn't consistant in terms of coaching and if you did your homework or had any knowledge of college football prior to 2005 you'd know the reason osu struggled before miles is because they were on probation. The coach before the sanctions had a much better stint than miles in the 80s with Thurman Thomas Barry sanders and hart lee dykes.

It's not about conceding. Of course we'll do our level best to beat them every year. It's just reality. They are a historically better program, the out recruit us and they have the greatest coach in the history of the game. We're going to be installing a new system next year and playing them in Tusky. So odds are probably 4/1 we don't beat them next year. So now we have 4 games left...2/4 would be incredible. Would you not take 2 SEC titles and possibly a Natty from now until Saban retires? Given we've won 3 in over 100 years, that would be a resounding success.

I think the camps have already been divided. Both sides have dug trenches. There's a large no-man's land in between.
Just stop.
Just stop.

Or you go to bat and actually hire a coach who was involved with beating them

There is no way to look at this hire (and Johnny Jones's ... and the Duke lacrosse scandal) other than what it is: an inept attempt by an arrogant, lazy AD who should be shown the door.
What should scare you even more is that the board signed off on this. ALl of you can choose believe it or not but this wasn't all on Joe Aleva. Joe is nothing more than the scape goat that will be gutted and hung up to dry when Orgeron drive LSU football into the fricking ground.

Yea but that isn't happening with O.

Sooooo, what the OP is saying is that you can win at a school like Alabama (or LSU under Orgeron IMO) in spite of being fired by another power 5 school, but not at some shitty school. Shocking. I wonder what Alabama (and LSU) have that the shitty schools don't? frick you OP, and frick your shitty...irrelevant stat.

No, what I'm saying is winning programs don't hire coaches who have proven themselves to be losers.

The fact that some LSU fans hope he fails makes me uneasy.
