So twice within 20 years. And my idea solves that and makes it a real challenge to get into the playoffs instead of this crazy 24 team idea.

Boomers take plenty of credit for things they don’t deserve to take credit for, but I’ll give it to them, they are the backbone of collegiate athletic support and funding.
Once they die off, the whole thing fully crumbles. There’s nobody behind them to pickup the slack financially.

They skipped over 8, which would have been perfect.
I actually liked the idea of 6 with the top 2 getting a bye. Oh well.....they blew past that one.

I was on board for a 16 team playoff but I did not want any more than that. Going to the 24 is going to really change the sport but its all about $$$ so it was just a matter of time before Sankey sided with it.

If you're referring to the SEC championship game im sorry but thats a loss from a pure fan of the game perspective. Conference championships were great football especially when we went to overall #1 and #2 team in conference....were trading that to watch 1 seed Ohio state beat #24 seed Memphis 56-3 in the horseshoe??? Cool
As just a fan of the game im gonna miss settling in for championship weekend, and what im getting in return sucks

WTF are you so happy about? This is another nail in college football’s coffin. Who are the idiots who keep finding new ways to frick up an amazing product? Other college sports haven’t been gutted like this, yet they keep making the greatest one worse. This is insane.

It's all about the money they can generate with 24 teams in the playoffs. I'd love to hear their argument for expansion. My rebuttal would be what team ranked 24 has a chance to win it all? This isn't basketball where there are Cinderella teams.

I just wonder if going back to how it was will ever be an option again.
How far back do you want to go? Back to when a bunch of sportswriters decided it? How about back when there were no polls?
I like a playoff. I think 24 is probably too many, but I think I would prefer too many to too few. And I rarely complain about more football.

12 is already too many.
it damn sure isn’t “too few”
most years you have a group of 3-5 teams that separate themselves from rest of the field.
sometimes it may be as many as seven.
but that’s a rarity.
then you’re just “filling a bracket” from there.
and just because there is no clear cut difference between teams 11-15 doesn’t mean all 15 now need to get in so you expand.
11 shouldn’t be in either.

When $$$ is involved reason goes out the window. College age football players will be pressured into playing 14-17 games. Obviously school no longer matters. Can the players physically handle the extra games? Many have serious doubts.

They, whoever they are, are about to kill college football about like how they, whoever they are, killed NASCAR. The love of the almighty dollar ruins the fun of it.
Charlie Brown warned us in the 1960’s about the commercialization of Christmas yet here we are 60 years later with our aluminum trees and all.
I have to watch it but now after last weekend, I’m convinced the odds makers in Vegas (or whoever /wherever) is controlling this as much as they have a chokehold on the nfl.

Don’t get why 16 with conference championships and no byes wouldn’t work
The conference championships are stupid now for many reasons since the conference moved to 16 teams and the CFP expanded.
A&M and Ole Miss had the same record as UGA and Bama last year and got left out for arbitrary reasons (although that was probably to A&M and Ole Miss’s benefit anyway since they got to sit home and rest up).

The upvote vs downvote split is interesting. I wonder if our strong record in sec championship games (5-2) has many lsu fans not wanting to get rid of the December Atlanta game?
I’ve always felt that if a team is good enough to win the national championship then they’re good enough to handle their business in the conference championship, but I admit that’s oversimplifying things.

100% agree. there aren't 24 teams who deserve to make the playoffs. 8 is perfect

Does this mean all universities are independents? How will that work in regards to money,!tv rights, images etc?

It’s beyond time to get rid of those stupid things. They’re a liability for the teams that play in them.
It's the single greatest thing the SEC did in the 90s to catch and surpass the Big 10 atop college football and stay there for almost two decades.
The playoff is a fricking disaster.

Yeah, but it was fun asking Old Piss fans how to get to Atlanta because they've never f*cking been to an SEC Championship Game.
