Conference championship becoming less relevant everyday….everybody wants to get ready for the NC playoffs.

It's the single greatest thing the SEC did in the 90s to catch and surpass the Big 10 atop college football and stay there for almost two decades.
I agree, but it has run its course now. You have to adapt or die in sports and in everything else in life for that matter.
The direction that college football is headed in has made it so that these games no longer make sense. Expanding the CFP to 12 teams and expanding the SEC to 16 teams while eliminating the divisions completely changed the game.
The conference championship games are a liability now.

Your point of view is exactly what is wrong with college football. The SEC Championship game is college football. It is an incredible experience for anyone who has had the privilege to attend. The school spirit on display is unmatched.

frick 24 team playoff. 12 is too many.
12 is less than 10% of teams eligible. Has to be the lowest percentage of teams that make the playoffs in all major sports. I think 16 would make sense bc no teams would get a bye. And all games should be on campus except the championship game. 24 teams is ridiculous.

You’ve only been posting since August 2026. So, who is this we of whom you speak?
Unless you’re outing yourself as an alter

Money is the driver behind all of this change. Or is it the last-ditch effort to take power away from the media and its manipulation of outcomes through manufactured polls?
Heck, maybe, just maybe, when American fans finally see the truth about how this social-engineering swamp has transformed college football and pushed educated athletes further and further out of the game, resulting in the deterioration of integrity, honor, and character among athletes, they’ll finally stop watching and bankrupt the whole system.
Then again, maybe not. After all, they’ve already allowed the very meaning of “student-athlete” to be turned into a mockery, and the fans just kept watching.
Liberals Win Again.

If they went with a BCS style ranking maybe I'd like 12 more but without that 8 is probably right.
Problem with this is that they’d still insist on including Notre Dame somehow

This is the answer to me. It’s a good compromise if they’re determined to expand

Yeah, 16 wouldn’t be too bad

This bullshite about how the regular season used to mean so much needs to end. Teams went undefeated and still didn't get a chance at a natty. Ask Auburn 04 or FSU 23. Have a tournament like every other sport that has ever existed.
Or undefeated 2004 Utah with Urban Meyer at head coach and Alex Smith at QB

Worry about them? Hell no. Do you even remember the last few “conference” champions. It was all about the money, and still is, so with the playoffs now these conference championship games are moot. Even so, 24 team playoffs for football is ridiculous. Should be top 10, no more dilution.

BCS > any other system
Fight me. This sport was so much better before the "Who's in?" craziness

If you’re going to do a playoff, it should be no more than four.

I'm fine with getting rid of championship games. Either in a 4 team, 12 team, or 24 team playoff format. They were ALWAYS unnecessary made for tv events that as the playoffs expanded often became an unnecessary burden. For example, in 2017 Auburn beats both Georgia and Alabama in the regulars season. Because of that they had to play Georgia in the SECCG. Going into the game they were ranked #2. Yet, because they lose that game Alabama makes the playoff despite doing nothing but sitting at home. Same for BYU last season. At the end of the reg season they were ranked ahead of Miami and only 1 loss. Yet, because they lost the Big 12 CG the were out of the CFP while Miami, a team that did not have risk a loss in the conference championship game, got in.

That was a lame situation because the national championship was never really settled on the field.
However, I do believe that the BCS formula should be used to determine who makes the playoffs instead of a committee.
The problem with the BCS wasn’t the formula. It was the limited field of two.
A 16-team playoff with the BCS formula determining who gets in would be awesome
.

OP is getting slammed with DV’s but I agree … for a 12 team playoff. If a 3 loss team (and possibly a 2 loss team) gets beat in the SECCG, they’re fricked for the playoff. Once it goes to 24 teams, I can’t imagine the SECCG loser getting left out.
