It’s still college football without a meaningless Dr Pepper bowl

Sounds like frick the SEC to me and their BS lawsuit.

Who can afford 5 playoff games? If you have season tickets and do a couple road games a year, having to pay for a couple playoff games would be hard. Have they thought this through? Would they just do home for games for the first couple rounds?

This is retarded and it’s all about money.
You’re going see #15-24 get absolutely washed. And people thought bowl games were pointless, wait until you have meaningless playoff games. At no point should anyone with 3 or 4 loses be competing for a National Championship.
6 teams, top 2 get a bye, BCS formula rankings. That’s my perfect world.

All I get from this is that the SEC championship game will be gone forever without Ole Miss ever winning one

We’re 5-2 in SEC championships since 2000. Why would we want it to go away?

You ever watched an FCS regular season game? Has anybody?
I was a student at Southeastern when they won the Southland conference championship over Sam Houston with Ron Roberts for the first time in forever and we stormed the field. Regular season game.
It was fantastic.
I'm sure nobody will show up to Tiger Stadium if LSU is an 11 seed hosting someone like UCLA in the first round

Agreed. Conference Championship Games are the first round. Winner goes to semis.

Because that completely misses the point. The point is that the game is totally pointless and unneeded when you have a 12-team playoff and especially if you have a 24-team playoff. All it can do is hurt one of the teams by giving them another loss and hurting their playoff prospects.
It’s also another game with wear and tear and injuries for the two teams involved while all the other teams in the conference sit at home and rest up. It’s basically a punishment and a competitive disadvantage for the two teams who earned the right to play in it. It’s ridiculous.

I'm likely in the minority however I've enjoyed watching the conference championships
The years they sucked were when one division champion was closer to the 4th best team in the conference, which is what we would get more frequently if we continued playing the game
At 16 teams and no divisions / non-standardized schedules and talent everywhere, going forward 1 or both participants will just be the teams that drew the easiest schedule of the CFP contenders
The game’s legitimacy is essentially doomed so it doesn’t make sense to continue them. But they aren’t really killing it now as much as we’re just waking up to the reality that it’s already dead

I go back and forth on this but I think this is the way. On one hand I like 12 for the byes because it rewards success but with the committee just chasing vibes each season it doesn't work well. The autobids and shite kind of hurt this too.
If they went with a BCS style ranking maybe I'd like 12 more but without that 8 is probably right.

Need to eliminate bowl games. Home games for the higher seeded teams until the championship. This would make the regular season still matter.

A luxury our friends in Oxford have enjoyed since the game's inception.

Totally depends on how they award slots. Will it be auto bids for ALL conference champions like FCS? That plus Notre Dame would already be at 12 slots. So you'd have 12 at larges.
Or will it be something like Top 4 from SEC, Top 4 from Big 10, Top 3 from ACC/Big12 plus 10 at larges.
Also I'm confused as to why people like 8 and 4 team playoffs. Nothing like having your season end in September.
2022 team that lost to Fla St could have literally gone 10-1 the rest of the way had they beaten A&M, beat UGA, and still have been left out of a 4 team playoff.
JD5's team that finished like 15th, would have probably done some damage in a 24 team playoff.

I mean, Miami was the 10 seed just last year and was a play away from winning it all.

A 6 or 8 team playoff would have solved that.
A 24 team playoff just means that blue blood programs can go 8-4 with maybe 1 quality win and still make the playoffs

I'm an LSU fan. I went to games in the 80s when we had no chance at a national title, best we could get was to occasionally get a big bowl (and lose). If you hoped to win a bowl, best chance was a mid tier one.
Didn't kill my fandom then.
Now, the bowls are dead on the vine. If you dont make the playoffs at a big school like LSU, half the team opts out of the bowl.
If LSU slides in as #19, at least I will probably be able to see our starters, unlike the bowls now. Maybe it's a play-in vs JMU, don't really care. It will be better than trying to guess who's the QB in the Texas Bowl.
And you know what, you never know what can happen.
2001, LSU was 8-3, only made the SEC championship because the West was down. Didn't matter, we beat Tennessee (who was #2), then won the Sugar vs #7 Illinois. I know this, ain't nobody in college would have wanted LSU in their bracket had there been a playoff that year, record be damned.

Yea I don’t feel like you are really earning anything by making a 24 team playoff. Pretty much just be decent and you’ll probably get in. How fun is that?
Look I don’t really care about the conference championship games either but damn at least keep it at 12 team playoff. 8 would have been the magic number where at least you would still have to fight through the regular season and earn a playoff spot rather than just being rewarded one with 3 or 4 freaking losses.

And the next best number would have been 16, but I guess they just have to have bye weeks.
