Reality of the NOLA area with recruits

NOLA has been good to LSU over the years, but how critical has it been?
Looking back from 2010 - 2026 and using top 10 in state recruits in the state, you are averaging about 1.4 top 5 LA recruits from NOLA and generously counting surrounding areas and about 3 top 10 LA recruits from the same area. Again, this is a generous area.
LSU without Frank got 75% of top 5 recruits counting the messed up COVID year while with Frank has gotten 62%, so actually worse. If you ignore the COVID 2020 class, LSU got 86% of their top 5 recruits and the same % of Top 10.
Reality is 2 things:
1) NOLA area is important and provides a lot of talent, albeit significantly less than some think.
2) There is almost no differene in recruiting from NOLA with and without Frank. LSU was better in top 5 LA players from NOLA area without him as well.
Stop acting like the guy is the only way for LSU to get NOLA recruits.

What Nola players has LSU gotten during those time periods?

Out of state teams should always have to work like hell to pull someone out Louisiana in general. NOLA, BR, 318, Cajun Country, doesn’t matter, all should be locked down. Hire whoever can do that.

The reality is this is a broad area we are considering for NOLA, so he may have little influence in parts of it, but nothing stands out for him to say he is some great recruiter. We got great NOLA players when he was here and when he wasn't. You also have to recognize that some years there was 1 top 10 player from NOLA are and others there were 5. Average is around 3 per year.

I'm not worried about Frank not being here. The running backs were not good last year. The running game was terrible. Obviously he's not a good coach and a better recruiter

Well, arguments aside, I respect your effort and data gathering.
I feel like people are piling on hating Wilson, and don’t like it.
Obviously he’s not bigger than LSU, and if did do something nefarious then buh bye.
No strong opinions about his position coaching, I’ve read solid things pro/con.
Hopefully he can be kept.
Obviously if not we’ll be fine.
And MOST obviously, LK is gonna make the right call. Because it’ll drive him crazy to not. He’s neurotic (in a good way).
So we can do our thing here but it really doesn’t matter one tiny single bit.

Why do you think a coach that knows what he is doing isn’t being held hostage by Frank the Tank? lol. I think the interim gig inflated the ego for Frank a bit too much

He sucks as a position coach. He hasn’t developed a running back his entire career to significantly improve.
He’s a net negative on the program. I can’t understand why anyone would want to keep him. He has proven he is not willing to take another position that is non-coaching at this point. That means he has no positive value because his negatives outweigh his positives.
He’s more likely to be like Orgeron was stabbing Miles in the back if he is kept on. He doesn’t give two shits about LSU. He only cares about Frank Wilson.

Put a full time bag man at Edna Carr 24/7 365
I’ll do it for $500,000a year
We’ve been paying Frank $1 million a year and he’s not a good coach

I don’t think you can count st James and the bayou as “NOLA area”.
Posted on 12/10/25 at 9:31 pm to Geauxgurt
Frank’s impact has been the Nola public schools. Aside from Karr now, those haven’t been producing the talent.

I think we're okay without Frank being here, but it would be better if he isn't forced out. NOLA coaches are self-important and they take offense to their "fraternity" taking a hit. If Frank leaves but doesn't have an axe to grind against LSU, it won't hurt LSU's recruiting. I still think that if possible, you try not to let Frank go somewhere else to recruit against LSU.

We need 100% of NOLA and BR

That’s kind of my point. Even if we include those areas to give him the benefit of the doubt, it’s not something where his impact will hurt LSU. His recruiting prowess is massively overrated and he’s a shite coach.

Kylin Billiot (transferring)
FWIW, Kylin is a Houma/Terrebonne kid, not NOLA.

Foster Moreau? You only counting the black guys?

Let’s just face it, this is Lane call to make. He knows enough about Frank to decide if he stays with the club or not.
Maybe there is old baggage there and he wants to just move on from it all.
Maybe he finds value in what he does and has him on board in some capacity.
We all can age out of certain positions at some point and maybe Frank would be better used in another role.
Either way, Lane is our coach and have to trust that at $13M a year he knows what he is doing at this point in his career.
