Is it a great play in the biggest moment or just the degree of difficulty. If its degree of difficulty, milam/dickinson is probably is first. And while morgans play is clutch, compared to the others, the degree of difficulty on his part is less.

There is no probably about it. It was the bottom of the 10th inning.

Yeah "greatest defensive play" could mean magnitude of the out in a meaningful game. In that case, Morgan's play against Wake is way up there.
In terms of difficult to complete, Dickinson/Milam are way up there. Dickinson getting to that ball was impressive, the glove flip to Milam who bare handed it and made a super hard throw. The likelihood of all those things happening has to be super rare.

Jared Foster superman catch to save the game and end the worst inning ever at aTm is better than any except Trey Morgan in CWS.

I don't have the gif anymore, but DJ LeMahieu's Leaping grab in Omaha 2009 was pretty freaking amazing too. Dude reacted and jumped way up there to snag a ball that should have been in the gap.

Maybe one of the most underrated plays in LSU history. Given how game 2 turned out, you can make a strong argument LSU doesn’t win the NC without that play.
The moment it left the bat every LSU fan said, externally or internally, “shite! That’s the ball game”

It is tough to argue against any of those plays, especially since all of them except the one from this past weekend happened in Omaha.

When you think about the Dickinson/Milam play you have to know how hard that was.
It took two players improvising on the fly with extraordinary athleticism to execute that play. It was as iig it was choreographed although we know it couldn’t have been.

That's the one I was coming to post. Good find

1. Tre Morgan
2. Ray Wright (situation matters)
3. Pearson vs. Florida in Omaha...(again situation matters)!
I think the fact that 2023 had the Tre bunt play kind of overshadows the importance of this play and #4
4. Dylan crews catch in game 3
5. Bregman vs. TCU (again in CWS)
6. Leon Landry in 2008
7. Pearson to Milam to Hernandez, gets the nod over #7 because it saved the game.
8. MonsterDick (that's what I call it) as far as highlights it's right up there but it really didn't mean anything.
9. Jared Foster at aTm
10. Tre Morgan throwing out the aTm runner at 2B after the bad throw from Merrifield at 3B

Can't remember which game last year, but Jared Jones made a similar play from 1B as Tre did. Surprised me with his athleticism.
Andrew Stevenson was an awesome glove in CF but I don't recall any one specific play. He just covered a lot of territory.

not an important play, but no love for Mark Laird several years ago.
fly ball to RF.
McMullen completely loses sight of ball. Laird comes flying in from CF full layout for the catch in RF.

There was a triple play in a regional that was pretty wow! Trey McClure was on third. Also, I think laird shaded to left caught one all the way in right. Sportcenter top 10.

I thought the game was over. From being there on the RF line, there was no way he was going to catch that.

Tre’s is number one far and away because of the weight of that play.
It’s like Warren’s HR being the GOAT homer because of the moment.
Some plays don’t have equals.

Good play, yes, but top 4 in LSU history?
Come on

also Blair Barbier made a back handed play at 3rd with bases loaded in Championship game against Stanford in 2000 that gets overlooked because of Ray Wright's catch and the walkout win.
but that was a smooth play with a long throw.

Plays where you didnt have to dive, or you have to dive or jump because you read the ball poorly off the bat should not count on this list.
