re: On a scale of 1-10, how surprised are you about the mediocrity of this LSU baseball team?

As surprised as I am I would be feeling different if they had won that game last night.

I think this is reasonable.

I will say that we were leading every game this weekend. UF didn't score a point until the 5th inning today. LSU got one in the 4th, so it wasn't like we got an early point in the 1st to skew stats.

We really should have won last night too IMO. We had that fricking game.

“Mediocrity,” is a bit much. “Early struggles” in the midst of a tough stretch. But, I’ll play along

Expected pac12 Bingham would transition well to Sec. So, 9
Expected Kling to hit above .275. So 9
Expected T.white to be above .350. So 9
Expected starting pitching to look about where they are. So 1
Expected bullpen to be extremely reliable and deep. So 7
Expected defense to be about where we are. So 2.

Overall a 6

About 5. LSU easily could have taken game 2 if they had taken care of business and won the series 2/3. I was more surprised about the MSU series. There are some guys that really need to start performing at a higher level, but if you recall some young guys last year looked good early and when SEC play began they were sitting the bench. Kling has to start producing at the plate or find some way to get on base as his speed is top level, and the snafus the catchers had in game 2 and 3 were head scratching.

Thought Jay should have had a tighter rein on Hurd today but he knows what he has moreso than any fans. Still think LSU can win at least 15 games+ if guys hit more consistently and manage Sunday pitching better.

I thought we’d sweep State and be 5-1, 4-2 at worst, so I’m around a 10

I'll go a 5. I assume most remember last year when other than Skenes during the regular season, Floyd and Hurd were pretty much crap shoots. Fortunately, in the playoffs they pitched much better. Problems also were prevalent in the bullpen...once again remedied for the most part in the post-season. The clutch hitting could definitely be better but right now, the pitching is pretty bad against decent teams. The only reason the ERA's aren't astronomical is that like most teams, LSU loaded up on a bunch of cupcakes games like multiple games against N Illinois, Xavier, N Dakota State, etc. And I'm guessing many here questioned which Thatcher Hurd fans would see this season...2023 regular season Hurd or post-season Hurd. Obviously right now it is the regular season Hurd of 2023 where I believe his ERA was around 7.

A 9. Pretty flummoxed. Also a bit discombobulated and feeling bamboozled.

I think we obviously didn’t do enough in the portal offensively. Relied on to many guys to make a jump who haven’t done so. I’m surprised the pitching staff isn’t better.

1/10. Only a total moron would have expected us to play at the same level starting SEC play.

Let JJ worry about the problems. I’m just going to enjoy the wins.

This weekend, we only really looked terrible today and Hurd is not on early this season. The same thing last weekend on Sunday, the only difference last week was Holman had a bad game and again the fielding did not help him. It is just frustrating.

So I'm a 5 to 6 on the surprise that they had these struggles this early but I also expect every team to have slumps. I'm just hoping that is all it is (I suspect it is only that).

The good thing is the schedule seems more front-loaded this year as opposed to last but that perception may change as other teams' strengths/weaknesses become more apparent.

I’m about 8.
Felt like Jay Johnson brought in some key pieces. I didn’t necessarily think we’d be as good as last year, but I had no idea the decline would be this steep.

I'm a 4. I hoped for better timely hitting. But I ain't mad at em.

I'll be there Tuesday Vs SLU.
