Why the frick can't the New Orleans Saints stay healthy?

As a Saints, Pelicans and Astros fan, I can’t remember what it’s like to not have injuries completely derailing the every season.

I seen him at the grocery store in the spring and he was all bandaged up and was using the buggy to hold himself up. I’m not sure if he got into some accident or just had a health episode, but he was in real bad shape. He’s probably still recovering from that to some extent.

I am self proclaimed as one of the biggest idiots on the board. If any of us knew anything we would be making money doing it. It would just be nice to focus on what is happening with the team now than bringing up the dark times again and again and again. I get that the conversation has it's place in this thread. But, not to this degree.

The Wade vs McMohan thread idea on the rant was actually perfect. Plenty of people still want to argue the situation but clogging up this thread isn’t the best place.

If people think recruiting in today’s age is crazy, imagine giving a kid money or a vehicle and not being able to sign a binding agreement for it  no telling how much money and impermissible gifts were given out over the years just for a kid to sign with a rival

All of our RBs will be in a position to really succeed with Kiffin's offense. He always has a great rushing attack. And I think our OL is going to really surprise people.

Kevin Smith seems like he is a legit RB coach and he’s been pretty elite at uncovering underrated running backs and developing them. I think Jones coming in and immediately jumping ahead of guys like Berry and Durham proves that he does in fact know what he’s looking at….

Kiffin made a comment last week when a reporter said the OL was holding back the run game and he said “the running backs have to run the ball well too”. So obviously, the staff thinks the running backs had just as much to do with the poor run game as the terrible OL.

He hasn’t been the same since he got hurt his freshman year. Looks like he lost a step.

I wonder how much of this was the injury vs maybe not being in the best conditioning.

His freshman year he played with an elite burst and was really tough to take down. There was a huge difference when he was in the game compared the the other running backs, yet Frank didn’t really lean on him like he should. Last year it was the opposite where he was sluggish and Berry was a massive change of pace. IIRC, he was able to play through the tough injury, so I don’t see how it was lingering a year later.
Even though he was only here for 4 years, I’ve never seen a coach with such a long leash at LSU. I mean, Brian Kelly was significantly more successful than Mcmohan and didn’t even make it through year 4.

I have no clue how this former mid major coach built up this much goodwill within the fan base and program considering most people forget we had a men’s basketball team.

This whole thing is so incredibly ignorant. Is it really that big of a deal? I’m most people probably had to look up what number he was in last year and didn’t think of JD when he swapped to 5.

Players don’t give a shite about the school they play for in the age of NIL. It’s all about who has the biggest check. No more playing for your state.

Some don’t like this, but it’s the reality of college athletics now. There isn’t nearly as much school pride as before. Especially for some of these guys that had an entire 3 year career somewhere else.

Butt hurt over a number. Hes disappointed in LSU and im disappointed in him.

He thinks LSU insulted his legacy by giving out his number to a future first round pick, so now hes completely nuking his LSU legacy…

What benefit does he think he will get from this?

CBS really set him into the cuck chair for this, That's kinda messed up

I thought the same thing

There’s no good way to have a guy who was just fired from a job predict what his replacement was going to do one year later

My bet is that LSU will play pretty 'generic Kiffin' in the first half, so Golding won't be able to make any halftime adjustments. Then come out in the second half with the real gameplan, and see if Pete can figure things out on the fly. And I'm guessing he won't be able to.

No team will plan like this.

The playbooks don’t matter because they add and subtract stuff from it throughout the season. They change verbiage, signs etc every single game because teams start to figure it out if not. At this point, your starting QB could be playing your rival next season, so it’s obviously something that isn’t completely unique with people being very familiar with their competitions playbook. You also have analyst for decades that are at a new place every year and sitting there in all meetings and game planning. Those guys could easily have the same knowledge of the coaches system as anyone.

Just think about this for a second. It’s really not that complicated.
I’m pretty sure he always considered himself as a defensive coach, but personnel kind of turned him into an offensive coach. He intentionally went more defense heavy in 2022 and just didn’t have a real go to scoring guard that the team needed. If Javonte Smart had returned, that team would’ve been incredible until he was fired.
This is certainly why Jay has said he rather invest into transfers and returning players than HS recruits. We’ve definitely had some signees get drafted that had success and would have been superstars in college, but there is a bunch of those guys that flamed out too.
For the life of me, I don’t understand how someone could think a salary cap doesn’t make sense for the league. 70% of the league already essentially operates with a cap with the tax threshold. The few teams that don’t are typically in huge markets. The dodgers having bottomless pockets isn’t the only advantage they have, they are also able to get guys to sign deferred deals to save them money to continue to add to their super team.

Baseball has always been pretty good with parity compared to most other sports, but the dodgers have figured out the way to break that up. The problem is only 1-2 other teams in the league could possibly follow their model.
Between the state being down in talent and the portal creating and all time low of patience for both teams and players, you’ll probably never truly get back to a large flavor of La kids on the team. I mean, whether it was their choice or not, we’ve had several over the last few years that left after 1 season. The days of the Dugas, Beloso, and Travinski type careers is over.

ETA: I think the one knock I could see is that he could be hittable for SEC hitters, despite the velo and pitch mix. By all accounts, he won't be a kid that has trouble throwing strikes.

The spin rates is the only knock on him, but as you said, still a high end talent as a guy with some velo who should be able to command his pitches. It’s likely he plays with some different fastball grips and changes some stuff up through college as well.

This is a big year for Yeskie. There is a ton of talent, but still a lot of development needed. Some of the major development is from guys going into year 3 under him. With the talent we have on this pitching staff, there is no reason we shouldn’t have one of the top pitching staffs in the country.
A saddle or a really light lock on is definitely the way to go with bow hunting. Takes some time to get used to climbing with the sticks but you have so many more options with the trees you can hunt out of.

I didn’t engage in the Logan Schmidt ceiling debate in the recruiting thread because people either like analytics or absolutely hate it

You can touch 97 in a showcase and your fastball still not be a dominant pitch. Regardless of what hand you are throwing with. It starts to make perfect sense when you see a guy like Eric Walker throw a 90mph pitch down that middle that blows by someone, then you see several other guys with significantly more velo get hit on anything in the zone.

We are paying a guy whose primary position is blocked the next 2 years over 1.5m a season?
