I'd shake his hand and say good luck if he wants to coach at those two places.

Sounds like this dude is going to be very temporary regardless of where he ends up. Left A&M for the Fran Brown experience at Syracuse and now he’s considering Nebraska and Penn State over LSU…. Sounds like he just goes after whoever edges out the last offer.

the system is flawed tremendously by trying to apply "the eye test", the "most worthy test" and the "most deserving test" to the big players, while also having DEI conferences getting a pass. the committee is a joke, the CFP is a joke because they tell you they're going to put who they want in, when they want them in. $$$ is the reason, not bama being the regular season default champs.

They keep making rules to be “fair” then change the philosophy after they realize it’s clearly dumb. The two G6 teams will get embarrassed then that will change too. The need an RPI type system to reward teams playing tough schedules.

Even tho it really wasn’t their fault, A&M hasn’t faced a single playoff team this year despite the conference sending the most teams to the playoffs. You could basically argue they are in the same situation as BYU who HAD to win to get in.

ahh, i get it now. your emotional post in the other thread makes more sense now that i realize your a member of the shrinking group of people who think Matt McMahon is a quality basketball coach.

You’ve got to really, really know basketball to understand that he’s actually running a great offense. You can’t see it with the naked eye and it doesn’t show up in the box score, but he’s really coaching these guys up.
quote:

I never knew the backstory. That makes sense now. It is literally irrational defense of a bad coach. 14-40 in SEC is a fireable offense

That’s it. The whole fan base was in unison to support firing a football HC who appeared in the SECCG and had 10 win seasons in 2 of his 3 full years here, but hands off the basketball coach who can barely field a .500 team.

6’4 is good but not great height

The question is always if they are a real 6’4 too…. That’s why someone like Geralds being listed between 6’1 and 6’2 makes you question if he’s not 6’.
I would think it would be pretty difficult to have him come in and compete with Durham and Berry. This was a good season to take some HS backs that would expect a small role next year.

None of you have given a single logical example as to why he isn’t great. He’s got everything you would want in a high school prospect. Any coach in their right mind would bend over backwards to have him on campus.

The reason is you, and his family, think he’s worth a team paying an absolute fortune for, but he’s playing bad competition and it’s probably going to take a while for him to adjust (if he can) when he does make it. In your outrageous scenario, you give him almost 20% of our NIL pool to do what in year 1?

Whatever happened to the barber and the kids coming out of that area? Seemed like there were quite a few for a stretch and now not so much.

They had a generational run of talent in that area for a short period of time. It’s basically back to what it’s mainly been now. You also had a few people overhyped because there was a lot of attention with Sopsher and Smith being 5* talent in the area.

As a whole, since Covid, the recruiting rankings haven’t spent as much time evaluated La recruits. There was a point in time where the LSU elite camps had multiple reps from every service, now they just come around for the state championship games. One of the scouting directors on 247 a few years ago admitted that they don’t spend much time in La and needed to do more. It was the year of Arch, and the only time anyone was in the state was to watch him. There were so many kids misranked both high and low over the past few years, it’s made it pointless to keep up.

College dropout is what I would guess. He was also a victim of the poor choices of people he surrounded himself with.

And a lack of work ethic. He was 270-280 lbs and looked like a 5* his JR year of HS. His senior year he ballooned to 330 and looked fat and out of shape. His recruitment turned into a perception thing, because i’m sure both teams realized he was overrated but weren’t giving up on their 4 year long battle.

Worst team in the NBA with no first round pick… looks like too many people wasted their money.

That’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about comparable opponents with similar results but supposedly one can coach and one sucks. I would say that McMahon did the better job last year against Auburn with way less talent. And he did a great job last night.

Again, common sense. You are trying to do some idiotic comparison between 2 games that are not comparable to judge who is a better coach. It’s not a debate. Playing a common team a year apart isn’t a logical litmus test.

I’m sure I could go back 1 year in your post history and find your post talking about how everyone should eat crow because the team had a winning record against garbage competition.
quote:

Make it make sense.

I think anyone, with even the slightest bit of common sense, could tell you the difference is one of these coaches has significantly more recent and consistent success than the other. That’s what it’s based off of. Pure common sense.
quote:

I watched a ton and read a ton on him last night. Hyper athletic, tall, not as skinny as a Jayden Daniels at this age. Good arm strength, but yes, poor mechanics lead to inaccurate throws. I think it can be fixed with good coaching. He’s got amazing upside, but I doubt a true freshman starter.

Watching his highlights, he has some cool plays running around in the pocket dodging people, but he’s also holding onto the ball way too long and would 100% get sacked at the college level.

Arik was awesome. Except he was a total headcase. Complete waste of physical talent.

I’m genuinely curious what happened in his life that changed. Him picking LSU was insane in the first place, because people didn’t even realize they were in legitimate consideration, but he apparently didn’t even tell his mom what school he was going to pick before announcing. A lot of people said he was a great kid, and he was close to Ojulari who was a really mature guy.

The first rumor was he smoked some bad drugs and stepped away from the team after that, but he apparently had a GPA that started with a 1 and seemed to be a complete disaster every way off the field.

The reason WW was liked by LSU MBB fans is because he engaged the fans and won. After Trent and Johnny - Wade was fresh air for the program.

It’s funny how we knew Wade was a good coach because people actually watched and paid attention to his media availability when he talked about his team, the upcoming matchup, etc. 90% of LSU fans wouldn’t even recognize Mcmohans voice because he’s a complete ghost.

The worst part about it is nobody cares enough now for the media or fans to challenge that. The program just barely exists
quote:

Apparently he’s only there to appease a mafia of highschool football players in new orleans

*high school coaches

It was a thing a few years ago when they fired Jabar Juluke (I think) because we didn’t have any old school Nola connected coaches on the staff. The coaches in Nola came together and was basically threatening to boycott LSU.

This is after the stories of Juluke being so terrible as a coach, he would literally freeze up during games and not be able to make decision for his position group
quote:

Why is everyone turning on Frank after a rumor?

It didn’t just start. People were pointing out how terrible he is all year when he wasn’t playing Berry despite being the only back producing. Pointed it out last year when Durham was in the same spot.

He then becomes the interim, people wanted him to get the job, he proceeded to be absolutely terrible at that too. Now he’s supposedly is holding LSU hostage.
quote:

But Louisiana is all about LSU, for the most part, not Frank Wilson.

Remember when sun belt Billy hired a bunch of Louisiana recruiters to work in Florida? That was a good panic on this board
quote:

That Frank is being petty because he might get offered essentially a demotion, so he’s going around to the major NOLA players and bashing us and essentially “anti-recruiting” them.

Exactly the type of guy you don’t want in your program.

You gotta hang out behind the line of scrimmage to get the ball thrown to you on this team.

This is definitely part of the reason, considering the only guys who got the ball were the slot receivers and the TE who was basically just a check down. Billiot was also really raw coming out of HS, so not sure where he was at in actually developing skill.
quote:

I personally think he should turn it down. A bigger job will come open at a power five again in a year or few years. Can't just take a job because it's a job. Has to be the right job.

He’s a Tulane Alumni and they have spent more time being ranked the last 6 years than LSU has… their last 2 head coaches got P4 jobs.

It’s arguably the most ideal situation for him to get a legit HC job that could make him a candidate for any job in the country if he succeeds, and Tulane is clearly set up for success as a G5 school.
