If you are just starting out, it’s pretty much impossible right now. For someone who really know how to identify deals, renovate properly, pick good areas, etc. they can still make it work. The better thing right now is definitely putting your money into the S&P 500, but interest rates may eventually go down and home prices and rent could go up and we might be sitting here saying it would’ve been nice to buy in 2026.
It would be pretty surprising if an athletic guy can’t develop into an atleast average outfielder in year 3. Guys like Crews and Brown never played OF full time in their prep career until they got to campus, and both went from atrocious to plus defenders.
MLB.com released their final rankings.

Looks like most guys slid down or stayed in the same area. Notably, the OF commits, Santarelli, Nawrocki and Schmidt slid the most. Evans, Brady and Stringer are 3 that moved up the most. Stringer has gotten some extra buzz recently, and the interview you noted mentioned Evans as a risk now, so I’m guessing scouts are talking those guys up a ton.

I hate that I like to follow the draft so much. So many guys you could start talking yourself into thinking they will make it to campus, then you get a gut punch on draft day.

Yes , leverage strategy , you will probably see more high profile draft picks do it.

I just wonder how much leverage this actually gives you… at the end of the day, being able to say no and go back to school is plenty enough “leverage”
Little bit of Thatcher Hurd in him where one bad call or one walk would just completely derail his entire game. You almost needed someone hot as soon as he got on the mound because when adversity hit, it was over.

I said it before, but you want a guy like Paz or Roxy that’s got big talent you need to develop, but you can’t have a whole team of those guys.

Would have to fell pretty far from his projection to have any type of chance. Just as a reference, the 141st pick slot value is around 520k.

We’ve landed a ton of guys with 500k+ offers over the years. We’ve landed several with over $1m overs. I’d even say it’s more uncommon for us to lose someone for $500k then land them.

It all depends on the individual and how much they value the LSU experience. No clue how this guy values that, so it’s kind of irrelevant, but signing guys who are right outside of top 100 draft rankings is usually the sweet spot.

I can’t see Santarelli making it to campus after that. It was a slim chance before that, and I think that slim chance evaporated.

Definitely disappointing to see he a Nawrocki fly up boards. Then again, Jared Jones mashed at that event 3 times and was still a 9th round pick. Different swing, but maybe helps hold some hope.

For the guys who understand hs baseball recruiting, would you change anything about the way we recruit? I guess what I’m wondering is if losing so many guys to the draft is avoidable or is it just a product of Jay recruiting so well. Seems oversimplistic to say we should just recruit less skilled guys in hopes the MLB doesn’t take them away

We were kind of doing that before Jay where we were trying to hit the sweet spot and our talent dipped. We’ve definitely had some success getting a few top guys through the draft, the issue last year was that Jay seemed to think he was going to get several more guys through the draft and they ended up signing. Jaden Fauske, Briggs McKenzie, Dean Moss and Maybe River Hamilton were 3 guys I think he thought he would get to campus and they didn’t. Things look different this year if you get the first 3 of the group.
The Alabama fans said there is no way their program would have the funds to even reach out  it’s such a lazy rumor they don’t even realize Bama doesn’t care much about baseball.

Anyone see the tweet about LSU and bama tampering with Unc freshman Caden Glauber? I’m sure it’s a troll account but man that would be a pick up of all pick ups

It’s made up. For better or worse, Evans and Schmidt will be two weekend starters next year. Moore is returning from injury and should be a starter if everything goes smooth. Then you have Hood that will certainly want to compete for another starting role. Tampering and paying a huge sum of money to add yet another guy that’s going to want to start makes no sense. He’s also from the Carolina’s and is playing for a national championship. It makes no sense for him to leave or LSU to realistically pursue.

He also said he would return if LSU had the right offer, after throwing up a 6.39 ERA. He threw 3.1 innings in the cape and gave up a HR and 3 ER.

His leadership would be great to have next year, but not much resources should go to securing a 5th year from him imo.

They both have a solid build already. Hoping they can just find barrels a little better and get the balls in to the gaps. It will come. Also a wood bat league. Takes some adjustments there.

Yea, both guys are pretty physical already. Patrick’s the best size/speed combo on the team. It’s going to be adjustments at the plate to get power from them.
10 run rule sucks unless you are in a tournament format. I would imagine that most colleges end their seasons with a few guys who have less than 15 innings pitched in a year.
Wasn’t Thompson always in the doghouse?
When he dominated the Cape last year I thought he was going to take the next step and earn a weekend rotation spot.

Pitching numbers are tight and the rotation is already on the roster.

The most important thing this offseason is still developing the guys you have on this staff already. Too much talent for those guys to play the way they did.

The end of it says lineup, so not including pitching. I think they probably end up getting at least 1 of the highly touted OF recruits to campus and thats probably your 3rd OF. You still have Patrick who has a ton of potential as well.

I really do believe with the high school talent we recruit, we should be able to develop and compete at a level equal to teams full of transfers. I'll take a quality one or two transfers that are staples in a lineup or a pitching rotation, but a solid group of year 3 juniors/ year 4 seniors create very solid teams. Those scrappy mid major teams full of juniors and seniors is proof every year that the model still works. Recruit the best, develop them, then finally fill the gaps with transfers. You can't create a culture if your team's core leans on a transfer. Feels like we don't really take advantage of the level of talent we bring in from the freshman classes. Yes, we have the standouts that produce year one, but the real value of a strong class comes in the years to come. We can't let these guys come here, develop, polish up their game just to roll out and produce else where. Keep them here, give them those long leashes like the transfers get, and collect on your investments.

This is exactly right. I seen a bunch of people saying we need Hayden Johnson, the Coastal reliever who just had a sub 3 era with a ton of strikeouts in 30 innings… thing is, he had an ERA around 7 the year before. The coaches developed him, he’s now one of the best relievers in college baseball. Why can’t Paz, Rickens, etc get that same level of development? Those guys have all the talent in the world. That needs to be the primary thing addressed.
Yea, “we are glad he’s gone, we got a better coach anyway” then “we are going to sue you for stealing our coach and the damages you caused this program”
From what I’m reading, it looks like he runs the By-U Sports X account. Is that right?

Seems like they are feeding the internet trolls on both sides.

Jay was clearly unhappy with how the combination of the portal and HS signing class ended up last summer

It was a little odd that he seemed caught off guard by some of the guys they lost. He pretty much called out Jaden Fauske, but he was getting first round hype heading into the draft. I think a few other guys that showed up then bounced like Dean Moss was a surprise to him, but he was a top 50 guy for almost the whole process. Without knowing any behind the scenes stuff, I thought River Hamilton was one of the only guys that really didn’t make sense, but considering he was hurt, he didn’t want to take a chance.
