re: On a scale of 1-10, how surprised are you about the mediocrity of this LSU baseball team?

Overall, he whiffed on the transfer portal. That's a big part of the problem.

No one thinks they're going to win it every year, but until there's a regional in Baton Rouge every year the program will not be at the level that it needs to be.

Talent doesn’t equal experience

The talent is obviously there but the experience isn’t. Beloso, Jobert, Dugas, Crews, Morgan were 5 key lineup pieces for a reason with SEC experience.

Not surprised. We lost a ton of great players and I had a strong feeling that this pitching staff was highly overrated. Besides, no way we lose Skenes and get better. I don’t care how anyone spins it. That wasn’t happening.

We lost almost every key piece from the championship team, including the two best players in college baseball.

Skenes
Crews
Floyd
Morgan
Beloso
Dugas
Cooper
Thompson
Jobert
Wes Johnson

The chances of immediately replacing that with greatness are very low.

Ehh, Braswell has been good, Jump better than good, etc. It is more the guys who are now sophomores are struggling which is not a surprise in SEC play. Bear has been good, Kling still struggling to hit. Tanks is below his 2023 HR hitting performance to this date yet his fielding is much better. I look at it as the team is disjointed, lot of moving parts in and out of games, hard for guys who aren't every day starters and little game experience to perform at top level when given a start. SEC opponents are rugged, got to get tough minded and keep grinding.

LSU sports in general are dissapointing but winning two natties last year will do that.

He needed to get some offense. The most glaring misses were Braden Montgomery and Colby Shelton.

Well, we were winning 1-0 in the 4th inning with Hurd. UF hadn't scored a point "

Twice in the same thread?

I'm a 3. I'm not a pre-season hype guy. Coming off of a NC isn't the easiest time for a ball club in college due to players lost. This team will improve gradually throughout the season. I am confident of that.

Looking back now I’m not so surprised.

All anyone talks about with this pitching staff is “depth”. Sometimes when that is what you are known for what they are really saying is you have a bunch of average guys and nobody stands out so everyone gets opportunities.

There wasn’t a ton of talk about “depth” last year, it was just how awesome Paul Skenes is.

8 also but I was believing all of the hype about baseball, softball, gymnastics and women’s basketball. Gymnastics and Mulkey’s team have come through.
