I agree. And like I said, this is completely different than the Trinidad situation which some people bring up. He actually would have an extra year to play at Ole Miss under the old standard if he had taken the RS year he was entitled to at his previous school...Grand Canyon or whatever it was. The only thing abnormal about Trinidad's deal is he wanted his RS year like 3 years later.

Something tells me that might not exactly be a good thing for us. Especially it being a southern grad.

The case is different also. Luis signed a professional contract I believe but has never played in the NBA. IMO, this is less like the Trinidad situation and more like the players that Wade hopes to get from the European league teams. Obviously, those guys have been professionals also but not in the NBA and still have college eligibility if you use the term loosely. :rotflmao:
I pick LSU to go 10-2 but to be honest, I had them 10-2 last year. But to be fair, I didn't realize 2 things...1) I never thought Sloan was a great OC or Davis a good OL coach, but both were dismal 2) I also didn't realize Brian Kelly was just going to mail it in as a head coach.. This year the coaching improvement is off the charts with Kiffin and Weiss with Blake Baker the solid DC back with much better talent to utilize.
I will point out the EXACT MOMENT that the NCAA "jumped the shark". Remember when several UNC basketball players were found to have taken a FICTIONAL class for credit? That obvious very, very serious infraction was discovered and you remember how they ruled? They said "because that 'class' was taken also by non-athletes, there would be no punishment." There was absolutely NO punishment...no probation of any kind.

Here is what SHOULD have occurred. ALL the students (athletes and non-athletes) who took that non-existent class and obviously got credits for it should have been EXPELLED!! No appeal heard...blatant CHEATING of the highest order. If that had been Louisiana Tech, the Bulldogs would still be on probation .

that foot injury is a bad one to recover from

Already 100% if he can run at 21 mph and do windmill dunks as Kiffin recently said,. I guess we don't need to refer to you at Dr Pitchandcatch27, huh? :rotflmao:

I think we beat Ole Miss easily… I got a feeling we shite the bed against Clemson… which I guess can be forgiven first game in all

Ole Miss will not be an easy game...Clemson will be. LSU beat Clemson away last year with Nussmeier at QB and a poor OL and Brian Kelly as HC and Sloan as the OC. Clemson had 2 DL drafted in the 1st round and lost their QB...albeit not a great one. LSU wins this game by 14 points.

Our QB (coming off injury) will have spent a total of 6 weeks with our cobbled together offensive roster by the time that game arrives.

First, Leavitt seems to be 100%. Running at 21 mph and being able to do windmill dunks per Kiffin pretty much confirms that. Second, a "cobbled together {talented} offensive roster" is 10 times better than an OL for example with little talent as 2025 had. Only the center Braelin Moore was an SEC caliber starting OL.

They will have no chemistry, anticipation, timing.... its going to be rough

Ridiculously overrated. You know the teams that people say have no chemistry LOSE games. If those exact same players win the same games, all of sudden they have chemistry. You have 0 idea about those factors you mentioned...0 !
quote:

points is points.... Based on my analytics .... 90% of the time it comes back to bite you late in 70% of the games when you're 2 points behind.
Take the points early.

IMO, Kiffin has come back closer to the mainstream in that I don't think he gambles as much as he did a couple of years ago when sometimes he would go for it on his own 35. Ironically, other coaches have met him in the middle by going for it more than they did in the past.

What irritates more than "chasing first downs" is "chasing points." Those are the guys who try to either tie the game early in the 3rd quarter after a TD or try to get within a FG with loads of time left in the game. And more times than not going for 2 and failing leaves you like 4 points behind with 2 minutes to play when kicking the PAT in the 3rd quarter would leave you only a FG behind. Oh, and the SUPPOSED chart that people use to justify that I believe does not have the time left in the game factored in. Just like the chart that has you going for first downs on 4th doesn't consider field position, the opponent's defense, etc.
We have all agreed that the OL could have been better...much better. Having said that, I saw some MAJOR flaws in his game. 1) he refused to run past the LOS which of course meant even on scrambles, the defense could run hard at him knowing he wouldn't try to get past them 2) his decision making was slow. I guess I was used to Burrow and Daniels but I really think that Nussmeier needed to utilize the VR equipment like those 2 did. I remember Daniels saying he even set the speed HIGHER than normal speed. My GUESS is Nussmeier never used such equipment.
Geralds has been getting "freshman phenom" reviews from multiple sources so I think he is pretty much a lock as a starter. Anderson, Blocton, Green, and McKinley you could probably throw into a hat and pick one. My impression of how Scott makes his depth chart is him watching practices and see who is "running with the 1s". He does that a lot with the OL also. I don't remember Scott assessing who is better than another...he simply goes to practices and observes who appears to be a 1st teamer. ASSUMING no injuries and ASSUMING no experimentation, that should reflect IMO Blake's judging of 1st team, 2nd team, etc.
You can definitely find varying depth charts but I personally trust Scott of DandyDon website the most. He actually attends most of the practices and thus he can tell who is "running with the 1s" assuming no one is injured. At DT, he has Geralds and Anderson as the starters and actually has Blocton and Green ahead of McKinley IF he is listing all the substitute DTs in order.

He also has Dillon Jones from Wisconsin as the #1 RB with Berry on the 2nd team.

So no level of play from him this season can change your mind?

Absolutely, his PLAY could change my mind! However, let's examine facts. In 2 years, he has not distinguished himself as an impact player by any stretch. And if the LSU commonly accepted depth chart is correct, he won't even be a starter...may not even be an early sub. When you are a TR JR and you are behind TR FR on the depth chart, that is not a good sign.

A large number of clueless Rantknockers told us that Rickie Collins was going to be the next great SEC QB

Yeah, I remember that well. I THINK Lester Earl was one of them BTW. He loves to "project" guys who aren't that highly rated as being future stars. I said at the time on this or another site that Rickie Collins has "0% chance to ever start an LSU game". He started a few games as Syracuse QB after the starter got hurt and STILL couldn't hold on to the job. I watched his HS highlights and they were just mediocre plays at best...and those were HIGHlights. Earl said the same thing about Charles Ross as some sleeper stud. The guy played special teams as a TR FR and made 1 tackle.

A few weeks ago he disagreed with me about Burney the WR commit. I said "he will never start a game for LSU". Then, he posted how his 40 time had improved from basically hideous to just slow for a WRer. Wasn't Wizard of Oz type stuff...offers are bad...rating is one of the worst of all LSU commits...highlights very pedestrian. If scholarships were more limited, I would call that a wasted scholarship.
quote:

So how are we gauging his play moving forward? Numbers impact plays? We’ve altered how we play our DTs, he’s more in a NT role now so do we compare him to a Brockers or a Tyler Shelvin or does he need to have a major statistical season?

He simply isn't that good. BayouCowboy's 2 posts were spot on. 1) he was overrated 2) the reason he was overrated was my least favorite word "potential". BC actually used the word that counts..."performance." BTW, I don't film study the DL every game so he MIGHT have been double teamed some but I don't think much. He simply is one of those many, many players not as good as advertised. Not saying he was a bum but simply that if you are supposed 5* quality, you should be a dominate force in one way, shape, or form...he isn't.
quote:

The DT position as a whole didn't produce much last season. Same for DE from a disruptive stand point. They were adequate and held their position for the most part but there was no dynamic element ie sacks, TFLs.

 Yeah, while everyone was obsessed with the poor OL play for good reason, I was in the minority and criticized the DL at the same time. The DE couldn't rush the passer, there was no push up the middle, and those 3rd and long conversions fell squarely at their feet. I thought the secondary did their job for the most part but the DL didn't put enough pressure on the QB in obvious passing situations.

Specifically to D McKinley just sticking with the star system this one time, he was rated a 5* out of HS and has played no better than a low 4*. How many times did he make plays? Was he a bust...no, not really. But IMO he was barely an SEC caliber starter which is why he won't be starting this season. BTW, a BUNCH of posters warned he was overrated who actually saw him play in HS games they attended. They pretty much were spot on in their assessments...decent player for sure but not remotely close to 5*.

That InsideTexas bit about “Jalen Brewster & Texas Tech expected to part ways, with Brewster likely to end up at LSU”

I don't think that article mentioned where Brewster would end up. It mentioned multiple schools. It DID say that he was not expected to stay with Texas Tech.
quote:

but if someone wants to bet you he sticks with Texas Tech, take that bet

quote:

Sorsby might take that bet! Sorry, had to do it.

Ok, now that was :rotflmao:

 Right back at you, a-hole! Not my fault that your despicable excuse of a human being Cody Campbell FLAT OUT LIED that they were trying to "help the young man". If Sorsby was a 3rd string WRer, they would dumped him like yesterday's garbage.
Right, that is pretty much exactly what I said also. Doesn't mean TT is going to get out of the NIL market, but everyone is keeping a keen eye on them after that Sorsby fiasco. I can't remember EVER seeing an issue where NO ONE...and I mean NO ONE took one side(TT's) of that situation. Everyone but Texas Tech condemned how they were handling that situation where a player had blatantly violated the no gambling guidelines that have been in place for decades in both college and pro sports.
I have no idea what you are talking about. :dunno: I have reread my posts and NEVER blamed the kids or their families for the current situation. In fact, if anything, I blamed the universities for making this NIL situation much worse by OVERPAYING for players who had not proven themselves to be worth the money.

And yeah, I will repeat that Texas Tech is the BIGGEST PIMP university in college football. And please, don't be so naive to think that Texas Tech would not have FEIGNED concern for Sorsby and his future in football if he had been a 3rd string WR.
quote:

I would be shocked if he decommitted at this point but if any school could pull it off its LSU

This is a good test of the recruiting services inside info. If you believe them, he will not be going to Texas Tech.
