Les Miles had to be secretly paid as an executive producer by the TV networks. I cant remember a coach who was so good at making sure the game was tight in the 4th quarter...regardless of how the first 3 quarters were played. He was truly adept at making sure LSU could always fight back from behind...as well as give the opponent just enough opportunity to come back in the 4th quarter.

And all we had to do at the end was run out the clock and Clemson wouldn't get the ball back. I think we had several downs to get two yards, but Miles decides we are going to throw the ball each time. Had we ran the ball and not gotten the first, Clemson would have been out of time outs. But the way we were running the ball all night we would have been in victory formation. The one time I was screaming at Miles to run the ball...and we don't.

It was clear Hill was the best player on the field that night. So Miles, in his infinite wisdom, decides to stop handing the ball to Hill at a time when it looked like LSU was ready to pull away. The same Miles who, for much of the season, avoided throwing the ball as much as possible.

Hill was averaging 10 ypc and I think he had 3-4 carries in the 2nd half. I'll never know what Les was thinking that game.

Notre Dame in the 2014 music city bowl is the only bowl game I’ve ever gone to so that game sucked. Nashville for New Years was awesome though

Cap One Bowl vs Penn St

Whoever was in charge of that field should’ve been tied to the goalpost and gotten 20 lashes. The fact there weren’t any career ending injuries was a miracle

I'd have to find the video again, but there is that sequence at the end before Clemson got it back for the game winning drive where all we needed to do was run out the clock and we threw it 3 straight downs, I think 2 were towards the sideline.

ETA here it is

Was mistaken. 3 straight throws but the first one got 8 yards, stayed in bounds. Clock is running but throw it 2 straight times after that, leaving Clemson with 1:39 after the punt.

Mett badly overthrows Landry on 2nd down, wide open, so if he connects it's a different outcome and Les is a genius again. But again, they couldn't stop Hill and we just ignored him.

Every bowl loss under Les

Penn State 2009 season
Clemson 2012 season
Notre Dame 2014 season

Should have won all three. Penn State the shite-tass field. Clemson because Les is an idiot. Notre Dame because Chavis decided to take another job before the game and not try.

1/9 but that can’t be included per OP

Les was 7-4 in bowl games and all 4 loses were a shite show.

Clemson in the 12 Chick Fil A (25-24)

the team completely checked out for that game and were pathetically out of shape, unfortunately I was there to witness it

I’m with you on Clemson because it was all on coach. The boys outplayed Clemson but Miles managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

No, the sloppy game was Penn State.

The Iowa game was Saban's last game, the one where Mr Defensive Genius Who Specializes In Secondary Play (Nick Saban), has the team NOT in Prevent on the last play of the game.

Iowa had the ball down 1, on their own 44 with the clock running, down to one last play. LSU lines up in the nickel, with their deepest player standing about 11 yds off the line.
At the snap, nobody is covering the slot WR, who simply runs a go route and catches the winning score. Looks like the safety at the bottom of the screen is coming TOWARDS the line
(added- Yep, he blitzes. Barely gets to the line of scrimmage by the time the ball is released).
LINK

edit: pause it as soon as it opens, and you can see the defense lined up. Again, 6 seconds and the clock is running at the snap, so one play left.

the Penn State players were laying around delaying the game but the refs called the Tigers for the unsportsmanlike penalty. It seemed to me like the refs favored Joe Pa so as to give him a good going away before he retired--which FORTUNATELY was forced anyway by the Sandusky issue.

There, I fixed that for you

The 1971 Orange Bowl against Nebraska. The Cornhuskers were playing for the national championship and scored in the last five minutes to win 17-12.
However, Nebraska fumbled on the 5-yard-line where LSU recovered. The officials said the runner was down but the replay told a different story.

1/1/05 Drew Tate. Supposedly the story is that Ronnie Prude didn't hear or didn't get the call and ultimately allowed the receiver to bet behind him. Supposedly Nick coached him as they walked off the field telling him if he doesn't have the call he should always simply play deep. Gee Nick, don't you think you should have schooled your DBs about that little nugget BEFORE the game???
