Is making the playoffs a “moral victory”?

I don’t care about making the playoffs unless we win it. I know we have to win out and beat UGA to get in and that comes with an SEC Championship, which would be bad arse.

That said, I have no pride in making the playoffs beyond that if we don’t win. OU “made the playoffs” in 2019 and got bootie-raped by Burrow and Co. do they take pride in having “made the playoffs”? Does it do anything for recruiting / NIL?

Yea, id rather win a NY6 bowl than get wrecked in the first rd of playoffs. But, on the other hand, having a shot at the natty is what ya want. And as sec champion, you have to feel pretty good about your chances.

Now last year. Looking back. I bet Michigan fans wish they had just gone to the Rose Bowl.

If we get in the playoffs, then that means we beat UGA. If we can beat UGA, then we’re not getting wrecked by Ohio State, Michigan, or TCU.

So nothing is any good except Natties to you. Probably should think about where you've set your bar. Natty always the goal, but not a realistic one every year.

For a team that had a losing record the year before and is in the first season of a new coach……it absolutely does

At this point, FREAKING YES! But I wouldn't call it a "moral victory" to beat Georgia and therefore be SEC Champs. We are playing on house money, and if we beat Georgia, and get into the playoffs, then its been a year that has exceeded EVERYONE's expectations.

Sure, like anyone else, I would like to see LSU win some in the playoffs if they get there, but getting there would be so much more than a moral victory.

I just want to win the SEC bro. Winning it in Kelly's first year would be a major flex on the conference and country as a whole.

If LSU beats Georgia in Atlanta they can beat any team in the playoff. Crazier things have happened. Got to get there first.

However even just making the playoffs, is good for the brand. And big game experience for the returning players next year. And means LSU won the SEC which is a massive accomplishment, even moreso in BK year one during a rebuild.

Can't win the playoff if you're not in it. I'll take that shot, no matter how bad the odds.

Of course there would be disappointment if LSU made the playoffs and lost. But relative to reasonable preseason expectations making the CFP (which would also entail winning the SEC) would be a HUGE and completely unexpected accomplishment.

In every season that LSU made the BCSNG/CFP there were relatively high preseason expectations. These were the preseason rankings:

2003 - 14
2007 - 2
2011 - 4
2019 - 6

This year not only was LSU not ranked to start the year, professional handicappers thought they were likely to win only 6 or 7 games. LSU was picked to finish 5th...in just the SEC West. Reasonable preseason expectations were as low as they had been in literally 20+ years. Hell, I think that if you caught Brian Kelly in a candid moment he would even say he didn't expect this team to win the SEC West...let alone make the playoffs.

This team has already exceeded all reasonable expectations. Any success they have moving forward is just icing on the cake. So while there is NO question we would melt if LSU lost in the CFP, stepping away and looking at everything on the whole would give you perspective that this season (should LSU reach the CFP) would be really, really, damn good.

Absolutely. Because Kelly can walk into any recruit's living room and say 2022 is the weakest our roster is ever going to be while I'm at LSU...and we STILL won the SEC and reached the playoffs. When the "floor" is an SEC championship and CFP appearance, you don't have to look up very far to see the ceiling is VERY close.

I see it as a moral victory. Everyone, including EVERYONE on this board said they wouldn't do shite this year...maybe win 3-4 games....coach wasn't a fit...all kinds of pessimistic shite.

You are a sad byproduct of this shitty “me” generation. If you can’t realize what making the playoffs would mean to this team, college football isn’t for you. Have you looked into quidditch?

accomplishments, in order...

-Make Bowl Game
-Win West
-Win SEC Championship
-Make playoffs
-Make NC game
-Win NC game

every one of these are important stepping stones for re-building this program.

ETA - you dont think walking into a recruits living and telling them "yeah we lost in the playoffs this year but with you on our side we'll win it instead"...thats a major selling point.
