ETA - you dont think walking into a recruits living and telling them "yeah we lost in the playoffs this year but with you on our side we'll win it instead"...thats a major selling point.

I mean come on OP, that's like saying I don't want to win the Pennant of the ALCS or NLCS if I don't also win the World Series. Or more germaine to LSU, I don't want to make it to Omaha if I can't also win the CWS.

Successful season and moral victories are not the same thing.

Moral victories are what shitty programs play for or claim.

If LSU wins out and gets bounced in the first round I would still consider that success for this season. I’m pretty certain any honest fan in July would have given up a bit for that this year. Especially while winning the SEC.

That's a very jaded way to look at it. Only 4 teams make the playoffs and LSU has only done it once before. Its a pretty big deal to be in that group.

Yes

Does it do anything for recruiting / NIL?

Making the playoffs mean that every day for a month, someone on ESPN is going to be talking about LSU being in contention for a national championship. Do you think that kind of exposure will help recruiting?

What a weird take - every team in college football would trade places with us in a second if we make the playoffs.

To answer your question frick no it isn’t a “moral victory” - it’s a sign of an extremely successful season.

I can’t believe this is even a discussion. Going to the playoff is why you play the sport. Yea so you may lose the game but if you are a competitor you just want the shot.

There are a lot of bad takes on this site.

This, and I don't say this lightly, may be one of the worst.

If we beat Georgia and make the playoff I'm not sure there's a team that can booty rape us.

Based on season expectations I would call making it to the SEC championship game the moral victory if I understand the term properly.

You are entitled to feel how you want. I just think this is a very narrow way of looking at things. You can only gain joy from a season if we win a championship?

Alabama's run was an extreme anomaly. Teams aren't supposed to win championships that often in a mature sports league.

I have a lot of pride in this team making the playoffs after O left it a complete mess. The distance a team travels to a destination means a lot IMO. I don't see how people can say it means nothing unless they win.

Now making the playoffs would be less impressive if you're returning all starters and you made in the prior two years, but I'll never take it for granted.

It really depends on the team. Bama, UGA, LSU, Ohio St winning a NC is all that matters. But to the likes of Ol Miss, T4&8, or even Texas it would be a moral victory. Hell, Gay&M will probably print T-shirt’s.

I’ve been a poster on this site since 2005, and this is probably the dumbest post I’ve ever read.

We've already far exceeded the hopes I had for this year. Everything else is 'icing on the cake'.

Let's go as far as we can and appreciate the guys, coaches and season...

OP makes a decent point. Teams that get absolutely wrecked in the playoffs go on to struggle the next few years.

However, with our defense, I think we can hang with anyone. Tennessee game was one bad break after another and it spiraled on us. Then the team figured it out and started rolling.
