I get the fan perspective of feeling burned and certainly it was entertaining watching him against LSU last season but reality is what it is. He’s very talented and showed out during the preseason, hence Philly holding on to him.

Maybe this is where his offense departs from Briles and I’ll admit I’ve spent far more time watching Briles’ offense than Heupel’s but the adjustment you note is exactly what Briles would have done. Put in his 300lb “TE/FB” and power run for days.

LSU played horribly and lost the game on a blocked extra point attempt. That’s not making excuses, that’s recognizing the reality of the situation.

Heupel’s offense is his take on the Briles Veer and Shoot. It’s hardly a gimmick. They stretch the field to its extremes horizontally and vertically creating space or favorable one on one matchups.
They move fast but it would still be effective if they huddled up every play.
