Thanks cluckster. I agree.
My point was if we win the SEC but don’t win the Natty, going to the playoffs has no additional benefit above and beyond having won the SEC.

Yea, id rather win a NY6 bowl than get wrecked in the first rd of playoffs
This means we are the SEC Champions! Will gladly take it any day.

Making it to the national playoffs in college football with this team would be an amazing feat win or lose.
I don’t get the, we have to win or don’t even bother playing the game, approach. Getting to play in a national championship game is an amazing accomplishment for the team, coaches, and fans. imo

I’ve been a poster on this site since 2005, and this is probably the dumbest post I’ve ever read.
What’s sad is that there are a ton of people just like the OP (though they won’t admit it here and it isn’t just relegated to LSU fans). College football is unique and I could expand on that and some of the nuances that make OP’s take even more absurd as it relates to CFB. But this attitude has recently been applied to all sports and their respective fandoms for 2 main reasons imo. The 1st is pretty obvious:
1) We live in a microwave, me-1st, instant gratification world where people want immediate rewards without the requisite work required to achieve them.
2) Nick Saban, Bill Belichick, (and Skip Bertman more specifically to LSU fans) have warped the perception of how hard it is to win not just championships plural, but a single championship. It’s fricking hard to win 1 period. So many things have to go right. What those coaches/programs have done are complete anomies and outliers likely never to be seen again. The fact they happened kinda simultaneously has been horrible for fan expectations in all sports because it makes winning championships seem infinitely easier than it actually is. But it’s really, really hard to win just one, and they should never be taken for granted, and certainly every season that doesn’t end in one shouldn’t be seen as a failure.

It’s a substantial accomplishment. Especially in the SEC. It would be amazing for LSU to make the playoffs. Like hitting the lottery. BK, his staff and the team have done an absolutely fantastic job.

Just stopped by to downvote this foolishness.

Moral victory? frick no - it is the goal to be in the CFP and win NCs
A fair question would be
Would you rather win a NY6 game or lose a CFP game?
Closer for me, but i'd rather lose in the playoffs than not get a shot.

IF we beat Georgia in Atlanta, I don't know how you wouldn't think that LSU has a realistic chance to make the national championship game, and win it.

You can make a movie about this season and last season if we make the playoffs. Regardless of the outcome of the first round.

WTF? Is this a trick question?
The only way we're getting into the playoffs is by beating Georgia. And hellllll, yes! Winning the SEC championship in BK's first year, after what we went through in 2020 and '21, would be a very, very satisfying accomplishment.
Certainly NOT what anyone would consider a "moral victory."

No such thing as a moral victory.

Getting to the CFP is a big deal. The 4 playoff teams get massive national media coverage up to and beyond the playoff.

Winning SEC does not guarantee a top four spot.
