Agreed OP - I can’t believe they (the whiners and the courts who enabled them) managed to trash one of the only truly great institutions left in this country.
We’re lucky we got to see LSU win 3 national championships, especially actually pulling off the perfect season ending in the Dome 8 years after having that dream ripped away.
I feel for teams that never got to pull it off, fanbases that will never feel such unadulterated triumph. But most of all I mourn the sanctity of Saturday nights in Death Valley, now like every other aspect of our lives tarnished by the almighty dollar.
We’re lucky we got to see LSU win 3 national championships, especially actually pulling off the perfect season ending in the Dome 8 years after having that dream ripped away.

The NCAA is 100% at fault for this. Had they during the 2010s applied common sense and fair firm rules evenly across the board while allowing athletes to make money from simple true NIL situation like signing memorabilia or being on a game cover they would have been able to keep this from becoming true pay to play. Instead they drew a line in the sand and unevenly punished schools that would not kill the golden goose and allowed other schools to all but openly break the rules. In doing this they allowed court precedent to rule and cut off their own arms and legs to save their ego. There were so many steps along the way to this insanity that they could have changes incrementally with the times and have kept some form of guardrails.

Eh I’ve always been of the belief that if you take classes at the school, you should be eligible to play on the team. I’m fine with certain star players getting paid for LEGIT endorsements. Or older guys being on the team.
Where college football as a whole lost me is the direct payments to players, and basically making it a pro league. I was still into it last year due to Indiana’s story, but without that and going full bore Rev Share just seems like a lesser pro league now. Lost all its a charm. It makes me sick all the money these guys make.

Lots of people in the law community argue that school enrollment may be the only requirement the NCAA can enforce in determining eligibility. All people enrolled are eligible.

It was a terrible day for collegiate athletics when they decided to pay players a couple years ago. But that ship has sailed so now you go and play with the new rules in place. Today is a GREAT day for LSU. Keep winning.
Yes it sucks that everyone thought college players should be paid beyond free tuition, free housing, free food, free clothing, free tudoring, plus stipends. Careful what you wish for. It is changed forever

Are you under the impression that LSU or any other big time program were not paying players until NIL? Are you under the impression that every player here pre-NIL was here for the love of LSU? Dude.

There is enough of what made college sports great left to keep me very interested especially in LSU sports. But if I think about it too hard, what college sports has become makes me sad.
