Verne was excellent. Gary was meh. Saban's Alabama starring as the greatest program in cfb history soured the cbs experience

Because it wasn’t there.

Bama was great at the time, they did a lot of bama games because of that, so narratives were invented.

The same people who cry “bama homer” also forget Gary was literally moved to tears by Burrow’s performance in 2019, which I’m sure made bama fans sick. They just got excited about good football and there never was any homerism

He was definitely rooting for Bama against LSU in the 2011 game of the century, when he famously yelled "Oh No!" when Eric Reid got the goal line interception for LSU.

“Oh no I thought sure Williams had it.”

Most of us did too when we saw it in real time

People hear what they want to hear.

They were outstanding, especially Gary Danielson. He was a professional. And the assertion he was pro-Alabama is a fairytale.

Nick Saban lost 71 games as a head coach in college. 52 of those losses came before Alabama.

Saban averaged less than 2 losses per season at Bama. If you remove his first season he averaged 1.5.

Seems like expecting them to win was a reasonable position.

I can agree that at times they would focus more on what Bama was doing wrong vs what the other team did right, but they were always pretty even handed in their praise when warranted.

They were fricking awful.

Gary “Obvious Statement” Danielson and Verne “Keep Your Daughter Away” Lindquist.

Watching a game with them and CBS’s incessant tv timeouts was torturous. A 3 hour game became 4 multiple times, often filled with inane babble from TV’s dumbest duo.

Vern often misnamed teams that were playing. IMO, he was terrible. I thought Gary was good.

Verne struggled near the end, when he got too old. But prior to that, Verne was excellent.

They were fine. Verne was a legend in the booth, but he was up in age and struggled a bit towards the end.

I never took his “oh no!” call in the 2011 LSU-Bama game to be some Tide homerism. I think he was just stunned that Reid ended up with it. I am pretty sure in the 2007 LSU-Bama game he called our QB “Quinn” and D Byrd became “Boyd.” Fun times…

I was on an Around the World cruise earlier this year and Verne was on the cruise also. I totally enjoyed having meals with he and his wife Nancy or just spending time talking to him. His sports stories were endless and his laugh contagious. It was sad to see that his physical condition had dropped off so much in the last few years. I am glad that I had the opportunity to spend time with him.

I remember that play well.

I love it when we stick it to these bastards that fawn over the gumps.

Though the Patrick Peterson's interception was a blatant SEC 'screw LSU' call that contributed to the game given to buma. cheating SEC SOB's.

Ref's getting paid to through a game. um

Verne was the homer. “Oh no!”

Danielson was ok. He was fairly unbiased but wasn’t always on point with his analysis.
