I liked Verne okay, but his voice to me belongs to the Masters.
Chris Fowler and Kirk are about as good as I've heard at being energetic and neutral. Of course they're always going to milk the story line, but that's their job. They both obviously really enjoy doing LSU games, if you've watched their live feeds.

All you need to know is that Gary always mentioned how Saban and Alabama did things in EVERY game, even when neither team was Alabama.
Seems he always expected Alabama to win and when something didn't go their way, it was WOW from him and/or Verne.
It got worse as the years went on and became intolerable at the end.

Gary knew football though and would call plays before they happened routinely.

I hated listening to them call games. They weren't bad, but they had a boner for Bama and it was obvious on every game of theirs that they called. It got to the point, I would mute the CBS 2:30 game while it was on the TV. As Verne got older, he started saying things that didn't make sense, which is to be expected as people get older and the thoughts don't come out as clearly. I much prefer Herbie/Fowler, Tessitore/Palmer, or McDonough/McElroy.

I do miss them a little bit, unless they were calling Bama or Cam Newton games - they were awful in those games. Other ones they were probably the best duo on TV.

Probably nostalgia talking but I thought they were great, especially Verne. Gary, I can see where people were frustrated with the Bama stuff, but 2010s Bama destroyed everybody they played, not many negatives to talk about.

The only thing that came close to the Alabama love fest was their love affair with Tim Tebow. I remember Gary during a game saying “Tim Tebow is the QB every father wants his daughter to marry.”

As a young man Gary was just about the best in the business about doing his diligence leading up to the game and he intertwined that into the broadcast. Very peak level sports reporting.
As he got older got less objective and more critical based his broadcast on opinions. The last few years he got extremely lazy and started showing favorites.

Loathsome. Verne was just ok but I literally could not listen to Danielson. I became pretty good at syncing Tiger radio call with the TV.

I know I’m in the minority but I always loved cbs except that it was 230 game times. But I loved the way they presented the games where they would show the stadiums from the air at the beginning and the bands/traditions. And I loved the theme music. I liked Gary and thought he was great at explaining the terminology. He always could predict the plays before they happened.
I liked Verne at first but he stayed too long and started to slip after 2010. It still feels weird watching the big 10 on cbs since it was sec for so long.

I kinda had a soft spot for Verne because I once lived in Tx and he was the voice of the Cowboys and on local news. Gary gave good insight as a former qb, but went off at the mouth about certain players/teams at times. I know they were trying to beef up the status of the SEC, but their Bama and Tebow love sometimes grew exhausting. The transition to Nessler was good, but we lost the SEC on cbs. Nothing in cfb is the same.
With all that being said, nothing like Ron Franklin, Mike Gottfried and Adrian Karsten on a Saturday night in Death Valley.

The CBS theme on a fall afternoon (LSU game or not) is such a fond memory for me. Countless times I recall being a kid coming home from a morning hunt, dad sits in his recliner, mom cooking, and then the TV comes on with that theme for the 3:30 game. Classic.
