I thought they were good broadcasting wise. But someone from LSU definitely fricked Gary's daughter.

Thank God I don’t have to listen to them. Verne was unbearable with his adoration for The Gumps. I’ve heard radio play by play guys for teams with 1/2 of the bias in their calls.
Gary was just more of a fan of whoever who thought was best. Wasn’t a team.

Verne was a solid guy. Liked to drink. Liked pronouncing the Louisiana names like Drew Allemand and Chase Clement, putting the flourish on the last names. He was definitely rooting for Bama against LSU in the 2011 game of the century, when he famously yelled "Oh No!" when Eric Reid got the goal line interception for LSU.
Gary was technically sound but was way too in love with Nick Saban during his Alabama tenure. It was a lot like Dick Vitale's infatuation with Coach K / Duke in college basketball.
Despite the Bama fandom they did a good job, and they called a lot of LSU games for CBS as the game of the week, which meant LSU was good at the time. Happy memories for sure.

I'll never forget it. That was the moment I first realized their bias and started noticing it more and more after that. I remember thinking "what the hell do you mean 'oh no'?" And Verne's fat man chortles throughout the game were quite disgusting. You could literally hear his obesity and his commentary brought nothing to the game. He was pretty terrible. Gary was great though. He was very knowledgeable and good at his craft despite his man crush on Saban. And when we weren't playing Alabama he was really the best in the business at the time. Verne was always awful to me.

I liked them just fine when LSU wasn't playing Alabama. When LSU was playing Alabama they sucked the Crimson dick and I must have kicked in half a dozen TV sets in anger at them.
