Only the mentally weak, panican retards would be shaken.

Before this season, I thought Jay was too elite of a coach to field a terrible baseball team at LSU, given LSU's resources, fan support, and tradition. I was wrong.

Anybody that has any baseball knowledge listen to Jay talk ball and doubts him is a blooming fricking idiot!

Somewhat. Top tier HCs, in any sport, should not/do not have drastic drop offs in results esp. when being resourced appropriately. For the best, you just don’t see it. In my judgment, outside the couple of injuries to Evans, Moore and Brown, there doesn’t appear to be any other explanation for the ‘26 team’s subpar performance than inadequate player eval and player development. That’s on Jay and is concerning.

My take may be "dumb" to you about only a couple of champ's...but I like the percentages...40% of his years CJJ wins in Omaha.
Even the GOAT didn't match those numbers.
On a side note, I can't understand why readers of this site has to act like ^%$# & call people names if they disagree with their openion.

Do you not realize Jay made a mistake gunning for too many transfers? I'm not gonna blame him because we lost a ton and a solid portion of the remainder never improved. We might still have growing pains next year because Jay is changing his strategy but I don't see him allowing this ever again.
how does he fill the roster then ...players got in the portal before he took players from the portal. I think he didnt take enough pitchers from the portal .

Yep, you’re not being honest if you say not at all. In this age of immediate portal transfers and NIL, Jay did a horrible job this year, which has to be at a minimum a little bit concerning. Moving forward the possibility of this happening again will be in the back of every fan’s mind whether you admit it or not.

It isn't only dumb to me. To just throw a blind eye to someone in life just because they've achieved success before is a good way to hit the skids.
I mean, even Jay is questioning himself and will look for ways to do things better.
Question - smart
Blind eye - dumb

In Jay's first five seasons through tonight, his regular season SEC record is 77-70 (.524); all SEC games 92-77 (.544).
You know what record I care about.
Record in NCAA Tournament at LSU: 26-7

Pretty easy to see why this season went the way that it went.
Then why didn't no one, from fans, local/national media to the LSU coaching staff foresee this?

It seems like that mindset would require forgetting that he did a remarkable job just last year in this same era.
No one denies it has been a really bad year. One of the worst in the last several decades of LSU baseball. But it is also a big outlier in Johnson's career. Not just at LSU, but everywhere he's been.
Johnson is one of only two active HCs with multiple national championships. He's been to 4 CWS. In 3 of those he's made the championship series. That's a pretty good "hit" rate. To put that into context it took Bertman 5 appearances just to make one championship game.
If we are having this same discussion next year that will be a different story. But for today he's earned the benefit of the doubt that this season is just a really bad, frustrating, outlier

Jay is a succesful coach who hides behind his analytics, he is not a leader of men into battle. He catches issues from kids imo because of this. Baseball is alot of things but baseball is about taking the "will" away from your opponent. Im not sure he exudes this to his players.

I legitimately have no clue how some of you look at this season and just assume this. You think this atrocious product seriously gets fixed overnight? This roster becomes worst in LSU baseball in decades to top 8 in the country immediately?

I'm not sure how someone could have watched the 2023 CWS and still come to such an asinine conclusion.

Not yet, but next year if something similar happens - you bet.

His SEC record is way too mediocre for a team with the tradition of LSU.
You people do not get it. He views the regular season as a means to prepare for the post season. By doing that, he is willing to lose SEC games if it weeds out/highlights who is ready for regionals/CWS. He did it in 2023 and it had people ready to fire him with three weeks left in the regular season.
The post season results are proof this system works.
That said he has shite the bed this season from portal signing thru last night. He has admitted as much and has vowed to change it. And if by chance we make it to Omaha next season, no one should give a rats arse if our SEC record is 25-5 or 17-13.

I agree that he has proven already to be an amazing couch with the ability to recruit amazing talent. It is confusing because this year seems to be such an anomaly. So much hope and trust with his preseason recruiting and so little to show for it. And everyone else was convinced as well as we were ranked 1 by some in the preseason. I think Jay has more than deserved a pass for this year but we will wonder what’s going on at the end of next season if things aren’t significantly better.
