Good insight as to why Mondo will compete for Sweden in the upcoming Olympics 2020

From Tiger Rag article
He says a lot of people ask him why he doesn’t compete for the United States, a dream for plenty of athletes who aren’t fortunate enough to be in his position.
A primary benefit of competing for Sweden is that he doesn’t have to go through the grueling qualifications and Olympic trials United States athletes must endure to earn a spot on the team.
He has already qualified for the 2020 Olympics as a member of the Swedish national team, meaning he can focus on his upcoming Southeastern Conference and NCAA competitions, where he hopes to break more records, win another national championship and, most importantly, earn 10 much-needed points for an LSU squad with national championship ambitions.

It can’t possibly feel as good competing for Sweden as it would for the US

Well his height the other day would have won him the silver medal in the 2016 Olympics. Wouldn’t be surprised if he took home gold.

I’m counting his medal for us anyways
Dudes from Lafayette.
Whatever technicality henuses to get there doesn’t mean much to me. It’s about who produces the best athletes.
Can he switch after college when he is just a pro?

Have you seen the trim that is on sweden’s Olympic team? He has a great shot at nailing multiples of them

I think Sweeden pays for his travel, training, and coach (his father). The US wouldn't pay for any of these things.

The Olympic medals I have seen didn't say anything about what country you're from.

The stupid USATF cares more about being "fair" than actually making sure the best athletes are representing the country on the international level. Yea its cool when someone unexpected makes it but than we end up with situations like this.

To the contrary. For those of us who are not far removed from our ancestral heritage, it would be quite the honor to represent the motherland.
For instance, my dad was born in Europe, along with one of his siblings. My grandparents' family is quite large now and we all refer to said European country as the "Old Country". Most of us have visited at least once; some many times. A lot of us know enough of the language to get by, some are conversational; some are fluent; all know how to curse. We still keep in touch with the aunts, uncles, and cousins in the Old Country. When the World Cup is played, the U.S. takes a back seat to the Old Country, although I will watch both when they're both in it. As for the Olympics, the Old Country really isn't good in any major sports currently, and almost never get televised, so I just follow the U.S. but I don't watch much of the Olympics anyway.
My point is that when you have a strong connection to another country, especially if it's the origin of your heritage, it would certainly feel as good, if not better, to compete for that country as it would the U.S. Don't get me wrong though. I'm American through and through, but I still have a sense of pride and passion for the Old Country. And obviously so does Mondo. Best of luck to him!
