re: Glasscock and Kiffin fumbled this Jersey 5 situation

It doesn't have to be a written rule anywhere and shouldn't be. But LSU thus far has not allowed 9 and 5 to be worn while waiting to ensure those numbers deserve to be retired. The only reason 5 is no longer under consideration is bc some kid whined about it. That's pretty disrespectful IMO from Pickett and LSU. But I'll admit Jayden looks just as bad right now

People wore 20 after Cannon

No they didn’t. It’s a freaking number.
There have been several good #5s over the years. Jayden was the best. He doesn’t own a number. I don’t know who’s advising him but they are doing a horrible job. Yes such a likeable human with his joy of the game and his big smile, but he comes across as entitled and no one is bigger than the program.
Jayden or his advisors have alienated LSU fans and at the end of the day that will hurt him far more than LSU.

No, Glasscock and Kiffin are doing what they need to do to keep one of the best players on the team happy because we all know these guys can leave whenever they want. Lord knows Ole Miss would immediately throw a bag and a number 5 jersey to Pickett the second he entered the portal just to frick with us. I am shocked that Jayden is this petty this seems out of character for him, but if he chooses to act like this then that’s on him.

Can they not just retire it on offense?
Brother, Lane is the coach now. If Jayden makes a bigger stink about this, Pickett will be taking wildcat snaps at QB on the first drive of the season.

Heisman trophies are great. But I’d trade Daniels heisman for a championship in a split second.
The only difference between Jayden, Burrow, and Cannon, is two of them won the championship.

Yep, our other two Heisman winners have titles.
Jayden isn’t our only Heisman winner
Plus DJ is one of our best defenders now and contributes to wins and more possible titles, Jayden doesn’t his time has expired.

But if LSU retires all its Heisman
Not true.

you're Pickett why even ask
Because he wanted it, was promised it, and no LSU policy against it.

Have some respect for the guys who have gone before you and cemented their names in history. Pickett is still a nobody at this point in his career.
Asking for your favorite number, within school policy, is not disrespect. And your “nobody”, comment would fail in giving ANY freshman a number.

According to you, it’s not a written rule, and shouldn’t be, so then everyone should just what? Operate on assumptions?
I agree that LSU should probably formalize how it honors previous players to clear ambiguity, but absent any formalized standard, is it not at LSU’s discretion how it chooses to do so?

Lane didn't fumble anything, if anyone did it's BK for not even being aware it was promised.

This is on Brian Kelly, he and his staff are the ones responsible for promising a recruit a number in order to get him to sign with gs. Kiffin's doesn't have any obligation towards Jayden Danueks. He does have an obligation towards his current team. If Pickett was promised #5 during his recruitment, then that is what Kidfin should honor.
I like and respect Jayden, bu Kidfin and the current staff us stuck between a rock and a hard place with this one. You don't want to lose a current player of a jersey# because it was promised by someone else. This whole situation is dumb.

This is stupid. He is a former player he doesn't own the number. JD5 had a great two years and had a great season in '23 but no I don't think the Jersey should be retired...I also don't believe Pickett should have been promised the number but, I'm sorry if you don't win a Championship you don't get your jersey retired. A punter wore number 15 at Florida right after Tebow left....Anthony Richardson wore the number....Tebow was a better College Player than Jayden...this is dumb

Maybe, but it's more of a bad look on JD5. I'd have to side with LSU on this one. There is no policy in place.

Its not his number, its LSU's number.

Explain how the 2nd scenario you laid out is them fumbling the situation.
Explain how reaching out to one of the most popular players in recent history about a number, being asked not to use it, and then doing it anyway is not a fumble?
I'm afraid if you don't see why it is, no amount of explaining will convince you.

Agree. No other Heismans numbers are used. Pickett isn't special and it was disrespectful of him to even ask.
I was with you until the last sentence.
Why not ask Jayden? If he’s not good with it, congratulate JD on an amazing accomplishment at LSU, tell him you totally understand, and respect how he feels about it.
Jayden earned the privilege of making that decision.
Pickett knows it would be controversial to wear it despite Jayden’s rejection. Honor the culture and Jayden’s position on the issue.
It would have been just a bad look on Pickett…but then the cease and desist letter puts a stink on Jayden too.

Oh stfu
JD doesn’t run LSU.
It’s not any coach’s or admins job to call former players and ask for permission to let someone else wear a # that belongs to LSU.
You people are beyond fricking stupid.

It's a bad look for LSU. It's a bad look for JD5 as well, but ultimately it is a worse look for LSU, IMO.
