LSU retires Heismans that lead their team to a national championship.

Kiffin kicked JD’s arse during his magical Heisman season.

Kiffin owes JD nothing.

Pickett is a punk as well. It’s a stupid number, get over it.

Why in the world does it matter? Do other Heisman winners say anything about this if they don't get their numbers retired? I cannot believe Daniels camp cares about this. He won a Heisman at LSU, but wants to threaten them with letters over another player wearing a number. You absolutely do not own the number.

FSU stopped retiring numbers and Winston didn't throw a fit about it.

quote:

"Florida State University retired Jameis Winston's No. 5 jersey, not his number. FSU stopped retiring actual player numbers in 1997 and transitioned to retiring jerseys. His jersey was officially retired during a ceremony on November 18, 2023."

Florida stopped retiring numbers and Spurrier un-retired his own number.

Really disappointed Daniels people care about a number after he is gone and doing well at the next level. Daniels could feel one way about it, but he didn't have to remove himself from all things LSU over this. Dude is rubbing some of his own fans wrong here. He's in the pros now. Why is even concerned about LSU and numbers?

Why is Daniels dictating what LSU does with the number? I hope LSU stops retiring numbers. If you stop retiring numbers then you can avoid some of this. I never in million years would have thought Daniels would be this guy. He seemed like the most carefree guy ever.

They were in a no win situation. Easy to fumble when youre handed a greased up football.

It's a bad look for him.

But wait until the national media goes in on this one. You give the black kid's number out in the third season after he wins the Heisman, but you don't give the white kid's number out in the 7 seasons after he wins it.

It will be a worse look for LSU, even though this was not the intent on any level. This is the world we live in. Even if we wish it were not.

Even if you are annoyed/offended, it is a TERRIBLE PR move for not that much gain. You turn a fanbase that loves and supports you against you for little more than pettiness. Unless there is a contract somewhere, Daniels doesn't own the number, and the jersey on which it appears is an LSU trademark

Because it concedes he controls the number and that you have to get his permission. Informing him of the plan is much different than asking his permission. It’s not something he has control over. He can not like it but it doesn’t mean you don’t do it. If we’re to believe Lane which I have no reason not to, he’s stuck between upsetting a former player and breaking a promise to a current player. In that case the correct move, to me, is prioritize your current guy.

Also they need to assign 9 and be done with this whole stupidity. Retire the Daniels and Burrow jerseys, put them up in Tiger Stadium with the other jerseys, and be done with it. Stop creating drama around numbers.

Currently there is only one number that is retired and cannot be used and that’s 20, if the right recruit wants 9 he’ll get it

No, they didn't. They don't need to be worried about a former player's opinion. They need to have full buy-in from the current players.

and Kiffin did the correct thing by what makes this team better now. Jayden isn’t contributing to a win this year or in the future, DJ is.
I would hope he would contribute the same no matter the number, I think Daniels is being a drama queen and don’t care if Pickett wears it or not…but unless he was quitting over it, he was gonna play as hard no matter what. The NFL is watching.

“Right recruit”

Says who is the right recruit?

Do what Florida did. Give it to a punter.

Eliminate the 18 and 7.

Let’s just play football.

I do not see how this is a bad look for LSU at all. Numbers are passed down, they are fleeting. JD’s success while great was temporary. Get over it, pass the number.

This is not true. LSU has only retired number 20 in football.
No other numbers have been officially retired.

This is embarrassing af on all sides. JD is being childish, Pickett should say, it’s not important enough to cause drama with my team, I’ll wear another number, the previous idiot coach should have never promised it! And lane simply got stuck in a no win situation. Everyone should GTFU

Heisman trophies are great. But I’d trade Daniels heisman for a championship in a split second. The only difference between Jayden, Burrow, and Cannon, is two of them won the championship.
Like I have said a million times. What a dumb move by Daniels and his people.
