The biggest catch here is that they’re absolutely ignoring Ethan Johnson and Cole Hutson who both declared for the draft and did not withdraw from the draft… since both “signed” with their schools before the rule.
Mark Mitchell at Kentucky in basketball and of course Alabama’s Charles Bediaka too.
Only players this rule seems to impact are the players who decided they wanted to go to LSU.

Until there's a concrete rule to prevent a player like Chambliss then that 5 for 5 rule is just a fart in the wind

These guys already passed the interview. They signed NFL contracts, reported to work, participated in training camp, received NFL compensation, and some even played in preseason games. Getting cut before the regular season doesn’t mean you were never employed, it means you were employed and then terminated.

The problem with this whole issue is calling a player who tried out for NFL team and got cut a professional but a player in college getting $5 mil to play a student athlete. This is all much ado about nothing. It’s fixed after this year so they should have just grandfathered them in and moved forward.

Exactly. UDFA go to training camp and are paid a weekly stipend by the NFL team. Whether they get cut or not is besides the point. They were paid by an NFL team to play football. College football should be for college students. 4 years imo. If you can't get it done by then at some point you have to hang up the cleats and get a real job.

You seem to have a good handle on this issue. It appears that all players affected by the conference ruling can file a discrimination suit against the conferences. They are specifically being targeted by the major conferences to not be afforded eligibility when a court ruled they are eligible.

But how do you allow this exact scenario in softball and gymnastics but then say you can't do that in football?

Fair point, and that’s exactly why this will probably be argued in court. There may be a legitimate argument about why professional participation is treated differently across sports. But there’s no denying these guys were professionals. They signed NFL contracts, got paid, participated in camp, and some played in preseason games.
And at the end of the day, everyone was perfectly happy with LSU’s roster before any of these guys potentially became available two weeks before the season. Acting outraged now because the SEC ruled them ineligible is ridiculous. LSU wasn’t counting on these guys all offseason. It was a last minute opportunity that didn’t work out. Move on.

It seems to me this is the unique year. In the future if the Big10, SEC, NCAA want to deny eligibility based on a player’s decision to go pro, the rule would be applied…because everyone knows the rule going forward.
But, I think they have a great case in the courts because a judge is going to side with these players because the late stance by the BIG10, SEC, NCAA is denying them the right to another paid year in college…probably way more money than they could make doing anything else.

No they aren’t facts. They have yet to play in an actual NFL game. They did NOT make an NFL roster. It’s not black and white like you’re pretending it is.
They only played in preseason contests that don’t count towards anything. Those are merely exhibitions against other scrubs who are struggling to make an NFL roster.
The NFL season begins on September 9. That’s the date that Game 1 happens.

I would be willing to bet most wrote a thank you to each university for the opportunity to play but have decided to forgo their remaining eligibility and declare for the draft.
Prior to all this drama/NIL era, how many underclassmen declared for the draft seeking greener pastures to not make a roster. No one felt bad for them not making a roster they took a risk that did not pan out. They were not allowed to come back.
Time to quit bitching about these young men who have been compensated very well over the last several years.

No, but this year with the Class of 2022 is a very specific situation where those players were screwed over by the NCAA. They declared for the draft thinking that was their only option. In actuality, they were going to have an extra year of eligibility. These guys didn’t know that because the NCAA misled them.
You’re being willfully ignorant if you refuse to admit that this is a special one-time scenario for the Class of 2022 with a lot of nuance and unusual details to it.
