College athletes are pros now cause they are getting paid to play. So what's the big deal of an NFL playing in college as long as he got cut and has a year left I college to play

The rational thing would be to allow the players to refund their small signing bonus to the NFL teams and take their year of eligibility then try again next season with whatever NFL team they’re with retaining rights

I understand all of that. But that’s not what your post is about. Your post is saying that we shouldn’t consider any of these guys pro players. If it’s your opinion that they aren’t considered pros until they play in a regular season game, then every year you would have a ton of players that go through NFL training camp, then try to return to college a week before the season starts.

To me, going to training camp with a NFL team for a few weeks and then getting cut before the season even starts doesn’t exactly constitute being an “NFL player”. That’s a dramatic exaggeration. These guys never took a single snap during an actual NFL game.

No you won't have this happening in the future because now everyone knows the 5 for 5. So next year if you go in the draft after your 4th year and you get cut you can't come back because you left of your own free will. You knew your eligibility wasn't up but you left anyway. That's not the case with the 2022 grads and THAT is the crux of this entire debate. Personally I could care less if a player left early and didn't make the team and came back to college but if you want to make it that if they leave they lose their opportunity to come back fine but at least they are able to make that choice. The 2022 class wasn't.

Nah, I think there should be a hard cutoff, and there will be one starting next year.
However, for this year, I think many members of the 2022 class got screwed over, and so I don’t think it’s a big deal for those of them who went to NFL training camp to make a return to college for their 5th year. These are not hardened pros. They’re scrubs who didn’t even make a roster. No harm in letting them have their 5th year back in light of the circumstances.
That’s the key here. This year’s circumstances are very unusual, and it’s ok to treat them as such and make an exception.

There already was a hard cutoff. The NCAA said that the class of 2022 was not going to be included in the 5 for 5. That was the cutoff. Then some random judge decided that they didn’t like that cutoff. That’s the problem. We have random judges that are making the rules for college football.

If judges hadn’t gotten involved, they wouldn’t be screwed. They would have been playing by the same rules that everybody before them played by.

That was deemed to be unjust, and I agree. They could have easily grandfathered all these guys in and avoided all this, but they decided to be stupid. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was intentional in order to get Congress to act.

Seems like what they are doing. They can also say that college players are not professional athletes. But they are. They may not be “employees”, but they are professionals.

Sure they didn’t play in a game but the knowledge/skill you pick up in an NFL training camp isn’t nothing, especially when compared to college coaching.
