Regardless of the why LSU depended on 5 players with very little experience. Fact,. That made a huge difference especially in this years SEC. Won't be the case this year. Collins hardly played in those 58 games. Fountain played and did nothing and was hurt for a while. The only players with solid playing experience were Cam, Sears, and Bailey and to a certain extent Williams. That's it.You can spin it any way you want. And most of the teams they played didn't even have a freshman in the rotation much less 4. And Collins was a jr in name only.
The difference between this coming season and last season is there is more college playing experience. LSU relied on 4 freshmen and a jr that had hardly played the last 2 years so there is a difference in that respect. Remains to be seen if the mid major players they signed can adapt to the SEC. But we won't be one of the least experienced teams next season and we will have 2 true talented post players this year also and hopefully an upgrade at PG and more size at all positions. Combine that with hopefully a weaker SEC and LSU should have an opportunity to improve their position in the conference.
That is a viable criticism of Mcmahon last season not playing Williams earlier. I think he was trying to let his freshman PG develop as Williams was a 2 not a PG but Givens wasn't physically ready for the SEC. I admired Williams for keeping his head up and stepping in when he was called upon instead of moping and being unprepared. Ithink if Ward had that same mentality he could have resumed his position as a starter but I wasn't at the early practices so I can't comment on what was the deciding factor to play Bailey but there is no doubt in my mind that Ward would have had starter minutes and been in the games late just for his offense. If he can't handle a little adversity he won't be successful anywhere.
Freshmen talent. You can’t win in the SEC depending on freshmen unless they are mostly Cooper Flagg types. I think all of them develop into good players . How good remains to be seen. But between the 4 freshmen and a jr that had hardly played his last 2 years reed and ward would have been very valuable .
I think he was the beneficiary of playing on a loaded all star team where he had 4 studs including Cooper Flagg playing with him. He lacked the physical mentality that was needed in the SEC and he struggled to make even wide open 3's. He may develop into that and was hoping he stayed and improved but I guess he felt he was worth more than he was and decided to walk.
Didn't realize he was a PG. That makes sense. I thought Reece was a SG.
Chester is interesting. Who chooses this the players or the coaches?
So this is where it gets interesting. Looking at 6'7" Harper who is listed as a SF but played SG and who dominated his conference as a freshman, albeit a mid major, but shows multiple skills when it comes to scoring, rebounding and assists or a 6'1" backup guard from one of the better teams in the SEC.
Just think how miserable someone's life has to be to be on here making negative comments about a basketball coach during the offseason. Pretty pathetic. You really gotta have absolutely nothing else going on in your life.

t's hilarious watching someone speaking like an adult in the room to these yahoos. It's like if they aren't bitching they aren't happy. It''s as if they have no life outside if TD.
Givens heard that Miller's deal was upped because Indiana was trying to get him to leave LSU. So he decided he also deserved a better deal only MM didn't see it that way and he's leaving. That plus seeing Thomas and some other guards being signed or being recruited. Anyone putting this on the coach is clueless. Players are leaving all over the place. And no there is no excuse anymore. Either MM figures it out and gets the talent he needs or he's gone. So no year 0 anymore. Every year is going to be year 0 in NCAA basketball from now on for just about everyone..
Bad shots and easy misses are just like turnovers. So that was included in my discussion about Mays freshman year. Point is players can improve but Givens wasn't worth paying more based on his freshman year.
Skylar mays was TO machine as a Freshman and couldn't finish a layup but developed over time and became an NBA player. It can happen.
I had heard someone discussing this a week ago and I believe they said LSU wasn’t going to to spend anymore money on depth but if a dominant player showed up and could start right away they would consider. Maybe they are more comfortable after spring.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Listed as a Forward but plays like a guard. Still has to see if it translates to SEC but he has a number of weapons and the right mentality. Might not require that much NIL.
I'm just looking at his skill set as a freshman. He is way farther along than Collins was as a Jr and has multiple ways of scoring inside and out. Also has great vision. Has a scorers mentality.
The Howard kid is intriguing. 40% from 3 and he shoots way beyond the arc. Can handle the ball and also has a mid range shot. Definitely worth a look and might not be that expensive.
Never said Mcmahon was above criticism for some coaching decisions and I'm an LSU fan not a coach fan. And the fact is those bigs in 2018 were more talented than Chest and Collins. Period. The whole team was more talented which is why when the offense broke down, as it did a lot, they would resort to "street ball" but had the talent to beat their man one on one so it worked. And the fact that there are those on here who struggle to read an 8 sentence paragraph sys all I need to know.
KJ avg I believe 3.8 yds per carry? With bad vision. Imagine what he can do with good vision and patience. LSU runs a lot of zone read so you have to see what the defense is doing and let the play develop before hitting the hole. Josh and Durham were good at that. KJ can get better with reps. If they ran more gap plays KJ would be much better because it's much less about letting the play develop. It's more about hitting the hole quickly.
