After watching highlights was this issue with running plays?

Just throwing this out there, but it seemed that a number of run failures came ( a lot like last year) when RB is turned completely towards Defense so when he gets ball it’s from standing position. I guess it supposed to be RPO but I don’t remember that as much vs Clemson
I guess the idea is if RB gets ball he then “decides” hole to run at.
This take is from a fan, maybe it was Tech stunts made RPO run difficult, just looks like Dilin better north south running.
Thoughts?

I think we were very vanilla in first half and kiffen continued to run inside with 9 in the box. Once we started running outside it opened. Looked Like les miles for a while.

The back is usually in motion and these plays the rb seemed to take the handoff standing still.

After I rewatched it, it seemed like they were trying to get work on the interior offensive line. Because we were much more diverse in the run game against Clemson and Kiffin's offense last year was as well so that to me was Kiffin just trying to get more work out of the interior line. Just my opinion but that is what I took from it.

That’s how I saw it as well. Whether it was TECH funky defense or not guess we see going forward
What’s exciting to me is the confidence that improving on stuff like this is right down LK/Weis/McDonald alleys

I just have a feeling LK and Charlie have a lot of their bag prepared for games like this.

We didn't run against 9 in the box except for on the goal line.

I was at the game and kept an eye on Kiffin after the bad running plays. He was not happy. I don't think they were just intentionally being vanilla, but at the same time I'm sure we'll see a more diverse running game in Oxford this weekend.

I thought he did something similar in the passing game. He knows going to Green works. I think he was trying to see who else was gonna step up. But towards the end of the game when we needed to put it away, they just started feeding Trey

No but we did try to run the ball against 7 man fits with 6 blockers and 8 man fits with 7 blockers. The OL wasn't great but it was more Lane and Charlie being very basic against a very complex defensive run scheme.

We went full Les Miles and ran up the middle with a stacked box. We waited till later to try to hit the outside a little. 8/9 vs 5/6 didn’t create many holes.

People don’t like to hear that we played a vanilla version of our offense but it’s the truth. We are much better at outside zone and barely ran it. When we did we were successful. Pistol was also working for us vs Clemson and we barely use it vs tech. No getting around Leavitt playing poorly but I think that should have been the expectations for a guy who just started playing a couple months ago.

I agree. Kiffin mentioned during the week prior to the game that running inside vs a 3-3-5 defense is a challenge. I think he wanted to see his OL perform just from a power level. And he said after the game they need better guard play. Nothing surprises Kiffin.
