re: Can someone define "professional"?

College athletes are pros if they get paid, which is most of them at this point. Which makes the whole thing indefensible in court until massive structural changes happen.

What people don’t understand is that will ultimately get struck down too. As long as a college football player can make money for his talents, the law won’t allow artificial limits on his ability to do so. If the only way Diego Pavia can make a million dollars to play QB is in college, the courts will say “you can’t tell him he’s not allowed to just because” Eligibility does not work in a world where college athletes are professionals. It was never going to and people have to understand that objectively.
Exactly. This is what I said in February 2023, which got 5 upvotes, 70 downvotes, and the thread locked:
quote:
NIL is a placeholder until colleges start paying players directly
Once that happens, players will be employees of the school, not necessarily students
They would remain such until their services are no longer needed; no different than a professor or custodian
The NFL would have more TV money to win bidding wars for players, but some CFB powers (ND, Texas, A&M, Bama, etc) have massive war chests to help make up the difference
Could Bama have won an open bidding war with the Dolphins for Tua in 2020? Interesting to ponder
The 5 years to play 4 thing could seem archaic very soon

It's a good product, but service has been hit or miss at both locations. Don't think there's much management going on. Same kind of thing happened with Mooyah. We've gravitated more to Burgersmith or Shake Shack when we feel like getting a burger.

So what happens if LSU plays the former NFL players and the preliminary injunction protecting that decision is later vacated
I don't know what would happen, but I know what should happen - and this goes for any team, not just LSU.
It's like your boss telling you in writing that you're allowed to take a 2-week vacation. Then you get back in town and fires you for taking the 2-week vacation, because they changed the policy while you were away.

Every school in the SEC agreed to bylaws when it joined the conference. If they don't abide by those bylaws, they can face punishment by the SEC.
This is true most of the time; but courts can restrain the SEC from levying punishments.
The same holds true with the NCAA; otherwise Ole Miss would not be planning to play Chambliss, who is ineligible by NCAA rule. They would not risk another judge overruling the Oxford judge, subjecting themselves to new penalties or being left out of the CFP.

Pretty sure the courts have no jurisdiction over the CFP committee
This is false, unless they somehow get a Presidential pardon. Which at this point.. nothing would surprise me..

Been quite a journey for LSU fans on this board this week.
In a matter of hours, from "that's right we're doing this, and you can't do shite about it!" to "other people were doing it too."
I've been too busy with work to keep up with the details, but if LSU broke any rules they should be punished like anyone else who breaks rules.
But if they didn't break rules and were just doing what other teams did, I don't understand the outrage.

Does it matter?
I mean, it matters in the sense that I'm trying to figure out if LSU did anything unique here, or if this is blowing up because the media loves Lane stories for the clicks.
Is it true that Ole Miss, South Carolina, Va Tech also offered Wright?
Posted by RidiculousHype on 8/27/26 at 10:43 am
According to Wright, it is. LINK
So this would mean there is no difference between what LSU, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Va Tech did. And the only reason for the media attention is that he chose LSU over those other schools?
Do I have this right?

The only Bama fan whose opinion I value on these controversial transfers

I guarantee you this guy would be reasonable about it

He was aways extremely humble & classy during interviews. Maybe a slight cockiness when he played, sometimes almost laughing at the slower defenders chasing him, but you need that to play at the SEC level.

Of course, and that's what I predict will happen. Everything I've heard is that Jayden didn't know what his "camp" was doing, and his statement basically confirmed this. Why else would he start it off with "I have been locked in on training camp"?
That's his way of saying he didn't know about it without directly throwing mom under the bus..

I heard Jayden had no idea this was happening, it was all his mom and a lawyer. TIFWIW

It makes so many mistakes it's laughable. It contradicts itself, it says "you were right to push back" when you call out the clear mistakes, then it will promptly repeat the same mistake.
It seems to guess at what you want to hear until you leave it alone.
If prompted correctly, it can do some cool things in terms of generating images and video. But it's pretty hit and miss otherwise.
