For all the OF’s in the class not one fr would see meaningful playing time Same thing with infielders not to mention someone like Ruckert can’t be happy either

I’m sure Jay would have gone about the portal haul differently if the other HS OF would have taken their names out of the draft. Jay has to do what’s best for next year’s team and not any individual player. Weve done the best when guys like ruckert are willing to earn their playing time and contribute to what’s best for the team.
I’d imagine what will end up being a much improved defense will exponentially help the pitching. It’s hard for guys to develop when they have to be perfect to get outs
He should be able to find better things to do than shoot a couple dogris

Fair, but Laya is also a very legit addition. This isn't post draft Yorke or SImpson or Dardar. This is a 2 year guy who was a freshman all american and had 14 HR last year.

Our 2nd team guys will likely be better than the what started for us at a few positions this year. Absolutely no way to predict a natty at this point but you can almost guarantee next years team will at least be fun to watch again.
He’s clearly not letting what happened last year bite him in the butt. I think the Doyle guy mentioned we were really fighting for a couple of HS pitchers so maybe out of our focus can go there now.
So there is a potential for boom or bust season’s under Yeskie? When we’ve gotten combos of Skenes/Floyd, Hollman/Jump, and Anderson/Eyanson it makes sense to have a high ceiling approach. I guess it’s pretty easy to have a knee jerk reaction to last year’s pitching but Jay has done well with what we had all other years.
This will sound like a loaded question but I am genuinely asking….what is Yeskie known for being good at? He gets a lot of criticism for a guy who has been pitching coach or a couple national champions. Seems unlikely to just luck into that.

Moffett faced 4 batters as a freshman Paz was terrible and still appeared in 17 games

Huge difference in the quality of the rest of the pitching staff in those two freshmen seasons. Paz pitched a lot out of pure necessity and Jay is always looking ahead when it comes to getting guys playing time.
Throwing this out as a thought experiment but is there a world in which you lean more heavily in the portal for starting pitching relative to other positions? Obviously if you have “no doubter” type guys coming through your program then it can take some of the pressure off but it just seems like a position that holds so much weight in determining your season. Would suck for guys like casan but, with losing Paz you are gambling on Casan and Ricken to make a jump and for Schmidt (I have more confidence in him) to progress into potentially a dominate Friday night guy.

Seems like when we’ve done well we’ve had Friday and Saturday guys who can eat a lot of innings.

It should be a relief to us that we do not have to use TJ as a coping mechanism anymore.

I’m not saying I disagree but Jay seemed to believe in him so much that he was willing to pass on guys in the portal for what he had on the staff. If you assume last years inconsistency will translate to next year then we should have completely overhauled our entire pitching staff outside of a couple guys.
I’m not saying we should emulate them, but things like Paz leaving makes me understand Georgia’s mercenary strategy when it comes to recruiting. It’s hard to want to focus on developing from within when your guys can just up and leave with bigger offers. I don’t envy Jay’s job right now
For the guys who understand hs baseball recruiting, would you change anything about the way we recruit? I guess what I’m wondering is if losing so many guys to the draft is avoidable or is it just a product of Jay recruiting so well. Seems oversimplistic to say we should just recruit less skilled guys in hopes the MLB doesn’t take them away

Maybe it means Jay got word that the Freshman OF class is getting gutted by the draft

He was visibly frustrated with how last years hs class shook up so I could see him not wanting to play any games going into next year.

Players will have to accept their role or else, no matter what NIL they are getting

I think the fact that all of the starters from last year will be gone in the next draft actually helps Jay. You don’t have to worry about the threat of losing those guys to the portal after next year. He’s definitely going to be focused on winning next year and I’d hope those guys would understand that. Knowing Jay, he will have a detailed and specific criteria for what he expects out of his starters next year and it will be up to those guys to meet those standards.

With Kurland it is all about keeping him healthy

Agreed, I could understand where being injured 3/4 years would and should make someone skeptical. Still, 17 hr in the sec as a freshman is not a fluke and he still put up decent numbers despite being injured. We are always talking about wanting portal players to translate and it’s hard to be more confident than having a guy come from UF and who has been in the sec for a long time. He just seems like a super high floor guy if healthy and it’s nice to have a guy like that.
Listening to Armstrong’s podcast and he seems to be really downplaying the Kurland add. Am I tripping or does he have potential to be the best position player we’ve brought in? Hes who I’m most excited about if he can stay healthy.

re: Your fav trout spinning rod?

Couple overall thoughts when picking a rod:

I recommend sticking with a manufacturer that you already have experience with. Rod power/actions are unfortunately not standardized and changes from manufacturer to manufacturer and sometimes varies with each product line.

St croixs are pretty consistent across lines outside of a few first gen iterations (first batch of victory’s and a batch of one of their Mexico lines).

I have started to really like the daiwa tatula elite line but they are almost a full power down from the st croix lines (I’m way more familiar with st croix). The 7’3 M/XF would be a good rod for what you intend to use. It’s actually an extremely versatile rod and I will throw everything from a One knocker to lil John’s on 1/16th oz jig heads while rarely feeling over or under powered. Good taper to keep fish buttoned up with heavier or treble hooked baits.

If you want to stay within the st croix line then the 7’3” ML/XF would be my go to. I’m actually eyeing that one up right now as a back up to my tatula elite.
What types of baits do you plan on using with it? These types of questions can be hard to answer without knowing what you plan on throwing. Inshore doesn’t need to be as complicated but bass guys will have a different rod, reel, line combo for each individual bait they throw.

The greatest part about having Park locked in coming here and playing at 3rd is, god forbid Milam get hurt, you still have an easy fix to that problem.

The 2025 infield was so fun to watch with Danny at 2nd and Bras at 3rd. LSU baseball is just so much more fun to watch when we are playing good defense. So pumped that Park, Milam, and Kurland have the potential to be as good or better than the 2025 crew

I agree. It's their money year.

Would this work in our favor as well? I’d assume Jay wouldn’t be afraid to move them around in their money year considering they won’t be coming back?

All 4 guys listed as OF can play CF. Roberson and Murphy I believe are specifically noted for their gloves. But Davis and Washington can also play there.

The older I get the more I try to temper my expectations when it comes to almost everything in life but it’s getting hard to not be really excited about next years team. Snag a couple more pitchers who can throw strikes and we will be in for some fun
