It absolutely was. It was my first real season being hooked on LSU football. Very exciting up an down year- the Dalton-James gang was fun to watch and that defense was amazing- especially awesome watching them shut down the vaunted Tide wishbone in Birmingham that year to break our 12 year losing streak in the Bear’s last year.

I listened to the Tulane game on the radio and it was back and forth all game. When We Lost I Was Butt Hurt for a week I just can't believe how though alot of those Tulane games used to be. Anybody remember that Zeno kid the Tulane receiver?

My first LSU qb I remember as a kid. The first bad memory I have as a kid and a LSU fan losing in the orange bowl to Nebraska. I did love the hillard-james gang though.

Yes it was and so was beating Bama for first time since 1970 in a game more lopsided than the 20-10 scored indicate. But losing to Tulane and losing a winnable game vs. Moo U confirmed the Story on Stovall - great Tiger legacy, even better person, and excellent recruiter but a pi$$ poor bench coach.

My sophomore year at LSU. Good times. Had some friends travel to the Bama game. Said they had to almost fight their way out of the stadium after LSU won.

No they weren’t talking shite to all the Gumps.........OK yes they were.

My parents were married in 1980 and had season tickets for that decade. My dad always said it was a great time to be a Tiger. Lots of memorable games during the late 70’s and 80’s.

It was. So was '85.

Those seasons are part of the reason the Curley Hallman / Gerry Dinardo years were so painful. Not only were we not competitive, we also were not entertaining / fun.

FTW, I made every game in '85 (home and away). Good times.

W over Bama in '82 was awesome. Us, "What time is it?!" Answer: "20 to 10!" We cracked ourselves up.

And games were meant to be watched in the stadium, not on television w some guy in a red cap stopping the spirit of the moment for a tv commercial.

Now, get off of my lawn.

I was a senior and had a great roadtrip to Bham and saw the greatest defensive LSU effort ever. Absolutely awesome. We could not stop The John Bond option at Miss State. The fog and raining of oranges against FSU was great as well. First really great season since 1970

That Bama game was deeply satisfying. Held them to zero first downs in the first half. When Hilliard ran over that Bama defender, I knew at that moment I would never forget that play. Yes, we retired the Bear that year. After the game he said it might be time to let someone else take the helm, and he did retire after that season.

That team was lots of fun to watch!

Your forgetting James Britt who was a 1st team All-American, a 2nd round pick and played 5 years in the NFL

Tim Joiner was a 3rd round pick

Lance Smith was 3X All SEC that played 12 years in the NFL

WR Herman Fontenot played 6 years in the NFL

Eugene Daniel went on to play in more games for the Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts franchise than any player other than Payton Manning.

Roland Barbay, Lawrence Williams, Greg Bowser.....

Yep I still remember the FSU game with the oranges coming down & fog rolling in. And unfortunately the Tulane game the next week. Every big win was followed by a loss or tie.

Beating the #4 Gators in Gainesville showed we were a team to be reckoned with that year. I remember Dalton Hilliard making their D look silly.

Anyone remember the hit Jeff Dale put on the Nebraska receiver when he dropped the fake field goal? He obliterated him.

It was great for me because not only being a huge Tiger fan but I played against Hilliard in high school. So seeing what he did his freshman year was awesome!
