The FSU game was one of the greatest games to be at. The fog rolling in at end of 3rd qtr was like something out of a movie. We were throwing oranges on the field (after spiking them with vodka and sucking out the juice). I believe there was a brawl at the end of the Tulane game in the end zone. Dalton / Hilliard gang was awesome to watch. Classic LSU football.

Think that was 1984, some punk Tulane male cheerleader is seen on tape saying the "n" word to Eric Martin after his late TD made it 32-15, the Texas players lead the fight after XP, someone must have this film..game was ended with time on clock...

Was a sophomore that year, great season as others have stated. 83 was even crazier when some Tulane students let Mike out his cage and he went loose on the campus.

Back when a couple losses didn’t put everyone’s panties in a twist and ruin the rest of the fun

Yeah...'84. Though it looks like it was a female cheerleader who, in typical chick fashion, had something to say and then turned around and hid behind some guy.

BTW...check out the last comment on the YouTube link! Poor Chicken...

Very talented team, but a rollercoaster year. The win over Fla. St. to get the Orange Bowl bid was awesome... we kicked their arse, it was foggy/eerie, and the oranges flew! Next week, fricking Tulane beats us. Reggie Reginelli. Tough, tough loss. Went to the Orange Bowl and played a great game but came up a little short against a really good Nebraska team. Hilliard and James were a lot of fun to watch and the defense was really good. The win over Alabama (the first in over 10 years) was outstanding.

The Orange game against Florida State is one of the top two games in Tiger Stadium history (Canon’s ‘59 Halloween run).

I understand this sentiment from old-timers, but I can't honestly put the Orange Game ahead of 2007 Florida. It's roughly even with Bring Back the Magic, though.

Agreed. For me, it's right there with a game like 2001 Auburn. Big win and special for a ton of reasons but not up there with some of the greatest in TS's history.

Just kind of depends what you're calling it. given I was 12 and it was my second game ever there, that FSU game in '82 is one of my favorite memories and most exciting games to have attended...what with the team kicking their asses, the fog rolling in, the oranges flying. No where near a "good" a game as Florida in 2007, or UGA in 2003, etc. but super fun like 2001 Auburn.

This is correct. I was there.

I started LSU that fall.

Had met Bo Rein on a recruiting visit right before he died. His death was a shocking blow. EDIT-that was actually 1980, not 82, but somehow I had them as related events in my mind.

In fall '82, started LSU and had a class with Jeff Wickersham and another football player who returned kicks but quit before the semester was over--cannot remember that dude's name.

Was at the Florida State game--and I will never forget it. The pledges were selling large green mesh bags full of oranges at the frat house. So we bought one and lugged it over to the stadium. I am telling you, this bag was large. We just walked into the student section with it. Sat it down between our seats and waited for LSU to score. When LSU scored on our end, the oranges started raining. The announcer said something about the safety of the cheerleaders, but it was too late. Fruit everywhere. Like confetti.

I also went to Miami for the Orange Bowl. Riots in Miami around the same time. Flares on the roads to keep fans away from the riots. We still had a good time until, of course, we were beaten by Nebraska and then had to drive back to Baton Rouge.

It was a rollercoaster of a year.

And those games were huge and hugely important.

But, more than that - 2007 Florida was a huge throwback to the Tiger Stadium experience. It was for "all the marbles" (so to speak). This was during the Tebow era, so that played a part.

It was a huge, televised game at night. So that was a big part. 2007 Florida had all the elements.

The gameday experience on campus was like nothing I had seen before. It was almost exactly 30 years to the day from my first LSU game (which was also against Florida).

All the 4th and 1s. And, the announcement of the USC score. I describe this for folks who weren't there - it can't be described as a loud noise generated by the fans. I mean, I had been in the stadium for huge outbursts before - notably, Bring Back The Magic - Troy Twillie's interception (which had to be on par with the Earthquake game which I missed).

But we were already about as loud as I'd ever heard and the loudest it is possible to be under normal conditions during a game. So, when that score was announced (final, that USC had lost) and we knew, for a fact, that the winner of the game we were watching would be the #1 team in the country, it was as if we all collectively invoked that noise from some dark, infernal plane. It transcended sound, football, physics. It continues to defy description.
