NSIS ??
UT lost 3 games that year - to Oklahoma, SMU and by 16 points to North Carolina in their bowl game.
LSU beat Alabama and Florida on the road, and came within a whisker of beating Nebraska in the Orange - 20-21.

Was Soph in HS, some great memories, 11 points from a perfect season...some great stuff in this post, a few more thoughts I don't think have been posted

coming into fall camp Dalton was 4th on depth chart, Myles was back, James was a 5 star recruit and Karl Bernard (who transfered and made brief NFL career) all ahead of him

Martin was a beast all year, not just FSU, his catch in Orange bowl when his shoe flew off his foot was all world, this was his first year as a WR, he was RB in 81, also he was both TD's in 14-6 SC win

Tulane was our worst point spread loss ever. we were -27

Fontenot (another pro from 82 team) caught HB option pass from James vs FSU, thing of beauty

Held Ole miss to -45 yards rushing, lsu record

Betanzos missed FG in Orange Bowl late and his short kick off to Gault likely cost us the win

The FSU game was for bowl game- winner to Orange, loser to Gator, one reason we were not up for Tulane

UGA won SEC that year, wish we could have played them, our D would have given H Walker a run....back then only 6 sec games (SC was not in SEC then)

Timmy Byrd and Wickersham were back-ups and at season end they were "tied" to be new starter, when JW beat out Byrd in camp, Byrd left for USM

Pete Jenkins was DL coach, if ONLY he had had someone cover Reggie Reginelli on 4th down we would have beat Wave and top 10 even with loss to Huskers

1982 LSU football

To this day, my favorite LSU football team. Went from 2-8-1 in '81 to coming from a Dana Moore FG and Reggie Reginelli sweep around the right side on a wet field, to playing for the National Championship.

All eleven starters on that defense were drafted and went on to play some pro ball. Nine to the NFL and two to the USFL.

The 1982 team was probably the least talented good team in LSU history.

What?

Many great memories of that year. The night it rained oranges is my favorite memory of a game in the student section. One other great memory was of the Alabama game on the road. That was before the days when all the games were on TV, and this game was not. I watched it on closed circuit TV in the Superdome with about 40,000 other people who bought tickets to do so. The crowd was just as frenzied as a stadium crowd. Alabama could not tackle Dalton Hilliard. LSU 20 - Alabama 10...... I try to forged the Tulane game.

I always thought that Stovall was under-appreciated for tyjob he doin the aftermath of McClendon and Bo Rein’s unfortunate death.
In the late ‘70s-early ‘80s, I used to go downtown to the Morning Advocate office to help cover HS football. We’d take calls from HS stadia across LA, take notes, and reporters would write the game stories for the Saturday paper. Just so happens that for several weeks in a row, I get the call from Patterson HS. Every game, this kid Hilliard was tearing it up! I was so excited to see him suit up for LSU.
I had season tickets then, and that team was exciting. Albert Richardson set a record for tackles at MLB. Hilliard and James were excite. Risher was a very efficient QB.
Went to the Orange Bowl with some friends. Nebraska was a heavy favorite and a local Cuban tried to bait me into a $100 bet at the hotel bar. I was wise enough to realize that he wouldn’t have shown up to pay off, so I didn’t take the bet. But it was a great game. If we had gotten one more possession, then I think we would have gotten a winning FG.

But, the oranges flying as the fog rolled in against FSU is a great memory.

Tulane beat us in TS that season.

Yea, I asked a pretty reliable source about that game. He told me most of the defense was so coked up before the game that by halftime they were coming down and just dragging arse. Said they didn't take Tulane serious at all. It showed. But the way they played against Nebraska was legendary. Should have won.

I remember watching highlights of LSU vs Bama 1982 and Dalton Hilliard had an unbelievable catch and run that game. it looked like he trucked two bama players at same time

ETA: found a video on youtube of the season recap and the play I am talking about takes place at 3:40 of the video LINK

I was a senior in high school. I will tell you this team was VERY FUN to watch! Yes there was the let downs after a big game, but I had never seen a Bear Bryant team get the beat down like our defense gave him on that Saturday. I was also in Tiger Stadium was raining Oranges! Again, another fun night!

And AD Scott Woodward was most certainly there as I recognized his fraternity brothers in the crowd.

It's a damn shame there's not a legit Dalton Hilliard highlight-reel out there. He was the best.

Started the whole who dat thing at LSU and then brought it to the Saints.

It was, but two of the most painful losses to take both the State and Tulane because LSU was so much better than those two teams and just could not stop either one of them....both hard to watch.

The debut of Dalton was electric. James was supposed to be the star, and he was good, but it was evident early...Dalton was better.
