This is Ole Miss' jilted lover strategy when it comes to Louisiana players they know Kiffin wants. They're not going to outbid LSU for a top Louisiana recruit that Kiffin truly wants but they can try and make LSU pay more. If Kiffin does invest heavily in a freshman, they feel that player is going to contribute immediately so they can justify the investment. Otherwise, they'll let that player go elsewhere.
Their strategy is to let another program spend the time and money developing a player, let him prove himself, and then go get him through the transfer portal if he turns into a difference-maker.
LSU has the resources and always will. Ole Miss doesn't. Right now they're spending aggressively because Kiffin built momentum and they are butt hurt he left, but sustaining that level of investment is another story. And I have serious doubts that Golden will replicate what Kiffin accomplished. Before Kiffin, Ole Miss hadn't consistently produced that kind of success since the mid-20th century. History suggests that what Kiffin did was the exception, not the rule.

Tell me you haven't been paying attention to how Lane and his staff is recruiting without telling me you haven't been paying attention to how Lane and his staff is recruiting...
Lane has stated he's not going to pay top dollar for a recruit only for him to ride the pine the first season because he's not ready only for him to transfer the next season, you just wasted funds that could have been better spent on another player ready to plug and play...
Let A&M or ND pay that top money, especially A&M only for that playing to sit the first year then transfer out...
