How much does diet affect how you feel at age 40?

For those who are around 40…
How does diet affect how you feel? My diet has always been fairly trash. But I believe it is catching up to me. I’ve got my sleep I’m working on with a Vanderbilt sleep doctor. And that has helped tremendously.
Im challenging myself to eat 150g of protein minimum per day this month and see how that goes. I’m a carb lover. Something has to change.

37 about to be 38. Diet and sleep are probably the two biggest variables affecting how I feel. One sh*tty meal isn't going to do much but a weekend of binge eating will make me feel like trash for the next 4 or 5 days. I'll puff up with water weight and feel really sluggish.

If you don’t change at 40 then 50 will feel like 70.

I'm 49. Since the spring of 2025, I've completely changed my diet and lifestyle. I gave up alcohol for good last October and now focus on a high protein diet with lots of fruits and veggies. I feel younger at 49 than I did at 40. Not only does my body feel great, but so does my mind.

Sleep, stress, nutrition, and exercise are the keys to happiness. Get that straight and the rest will fall in line. The joy of eating garbage will be outweighed by the joy of feeling better and having more energy.

About to be 44. I wouldn’t say I have the strictest diet in the world but I have cut out all deep fried foods and anything in general that has lots of oils. Went to a fish fry a while back at a friend’s house and decided to have a cheat day, it completely wrecked my stomach for the rest of the weekend. Anytime I eat anything that is roux based I feel extremely sluggish the rest of the day and it’s all foods that I literally grew up on.
