Texas is reportedly giving backup quarterback KJ Lacey Jr. increased first-team reps in practice this week as starter Arch Manning continues to struggle.

According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, the move signals that Texas could turn to Lacey if Manning's struggles continue during Saturday's matchup against No. 7 Ole Miss.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian said Monday that Manning remains the team's starting quarterback but emphasized the need for improvement.

The news comes after Texas suffered back-to-back losses to Oklahoma and Florida, dropping the Longhorns from No. 1 to No. 19 in the AP Top 25.

Through six games, Manning has thrown for 1,295 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He completed 14 of 20 passes for 173 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's 27-24 loss to Florida but also lost a costly fumble late in the game.

Lacey, a redshirt freshman, has appeared in two games this season, completing seven of eight passes for 63 yards.

While Manning is expected to start against Ole Miss, his performance could determine whether Texas makes a change at quarterback.
