I work 12 hour shifts and find a way to go 5 days a week.
I get up at 4AM, work 5A-5P then hit the gym 5:30-7

I’m going to take a guess and say you don’t have a wife and/or kids? Lol

With your schedule, you're going to have to adapt a workout schedule where you do legs in Wednesday, back, shoulders and biceps Saturday, and chest and triceps on Sunday. Or alter it a little.
A lot of this you could do at home with very little equipment.
Also, you could try and do pushups, squats, lunges, etc during tv time with the wife a few days a week. Anything is better than nothing.

I also teach and coach.
It’s looking like 5:00 AM start time will be the ticket for me. Just joined a new gym. Thanks Perhaps a couple times a week at 3:30 when we don’t have practice.
3:30 can be brutal. If I sit on the couch, it’s over. I’ll have to drive straight to the gym. Preferably with a coffee prior.
To make things more difficult our first kid is arriving within the next couple of weeks

Pretty much. I haven't started wearing a weighted vest yet but I have thought about it. My neighbors would think I'm crazy.

I make time...i have to be at work at 0500 and have an hour drive. I get off and spend time with the kids. So i have to wake up at 2:30 to go to the gym. I workout from 3:00 until it's time to leave....it sucks but after a little while it gets easier. The other alternative is working out a the busiest time of the day and missing family time. So just wake up early, only down side is I have to go to bed early to get enough sleep

Major props. That’s crazy!

My kid is around the same age and goes to bed at 7:30.
I workout four times a week.
M - straight home from work at 5
T - get to gym for 5:30 home by 6:30-6:45.
W - straight home
Th - get to gym for 5:30 home by 6:30-6:45.
F - straight home
Sat and Sun - workout both days but much easier as both days are spent with family.

I’m in education and coaching and love working out and staying active. I really enjoy CrossFit or working out at a gym that has a basketball court or other amenities.
I have 3 kids, it's not easy and I'll start right now will be the easiest time you will have to work out as crazy as that sounds.
I'm not gonna straight so you don't want to, cause I know it's tough but you are worrying about being at a gym with a basketball court and all kinds of other amenities and almost making excuses. The facts are you are looking at it all wrong if you really want to. You need to adjust what you consider working out.
As far as the comment on not enjoying it....it's about discipline, not motivation.
As far as adjusting working out, first you need to start working out from home, going to be the quickest and most convenient.
You are a teacher so not gonna tell you to build a full home gym. Start with the following, start at the top and buy a new item every pay check or so as you can afford
Jump rope
Gymanstics rings
Weighted vest- adjustable up to 80lbs
Kettlebells- 26,36,53
50 & 100 lbs strongman sandbangs
With the above you can hit every body part very well snd get tons of cardio in. 3 days a week is more than enough, go for walks with the wife and kid other days.
As far as finding time, I don't watch a ton of TV. Last night wife and I went to dinner with friends snd I had to work late, so I'm out here getting it in tonight cause got to do what you go to do to get it in.
The comment about spending time with the wife on the couch....that's the problem. Can spend time with her but you are gonna have to sacrifice some for your health and she will have to understand.
I personally go to work earlier than you and workout in the 8-10 window. Most of the time I'm done in 90min or less, shower and asleep by 1030.

Had something similar earlier in my career, and the solution was REALLY biasing toward the weekends. I’d get solid workouts in Sat and Sun, then aim for one good workout during the week.
Once I got over missing drinking or “cheating” on the weekend, it became a really good solution

Sounds like you have time early AM. Go to bed early and create a habit of waking up at whatever time you need to to get a workout in. It’s gets easier the longer you stay disciplined. That’s the only time I have to workout too - just gotta make it happen if it’s important to you.

OP, you simply don’t have the drive to do what you need to do.

I have 3 kids and for a couple years I worked out at night after everyone was in bed. Before my home gym, I drove 30 mins to the closest 24 hour gym. It sucked but it sucked less than waking up at 4:30 am. If you’re money is tight sign up at a planet fitness. Yeah they suck buts it’s $10 a month.

I did this for 20 minutes one time and wanted to kick a mother fricker when I was done. It’s so damn boring and mind fricks you.

I do it as a 10 min finisher once a week. Adapted pretty quickly and have upped the reps but the first few times really sucked.

5:00 in the morning first thing. Fell like a million bucks afterwards.

I hit a few walking lunges while mowing but I stopped when I realized I have dogs and it’s only a matter of time until I mow over a hidden pile a shite and take a knee in it.

That’s pretty early to have to be at work. My wife and I get up around 4:30am to get our workouts in.
