Sure he is 8 times Mr. Olympia, but now his body is a wreck.

He told Joe Rogan he has had 13 different surgeries.

And he's only 58 yrs old.

He's always said his only regret was not squatting it 3 times.

Deep down, of course he regrets some, but who's to say something wouldn't have happened without the lifting?

The older I get the more I value overall health. I’m pretty sure he has regrets.

he says no.

but i would imagine, he wish he would have switched to a different style of training once he built his mass.

or im sure he wish he would have not popped so many painkillers and actually listened to his body.

but for many like him, they dont care about the consequences and only have tunnel vision to be the best no matter the sport.

im sure he does.

i he achieved greatness but at too much a cost. can you imagine how hes gonna be feeling even 10 or 20 years from now (if he lives that long).

What is it that he did exactly that has ruined his body to such a degree? Anabolic compounds? Training intensity or training through injuries? Some combo of all these?

yea body building sets and volume with power lifting weights probably isn't the best idea.

How many competitive body builders do you see squatting 600lbs+ for high reps, deadlifting 600lbs+ for reps.

He wrecked his body

I watched him train in person a few times in Monroe when his family still lived in Bastrop. This was maybe during his first or second Olympia. I know there are videos of his lifts but watching him lift like that in person is kinda awe inspiring and I have seen some really strong dudes move some obscene weights. I am going to say you are 100% correct. Ronnie loved being the biggest, strongest dude in a room and when you are addicted to that high, it is like being addicted to meth. You will go anything to stay on that high.

Working out through injuries as he did is suicidal. Walking to the keg press on crutches. Idiot. Let your damn body heal.

I’ve watched a ton of stuff on Ronnie. I think it was worth it to him. It wouldn’t be worth it to me…but it was his passion.

It was an addiction like any other addiction. I say “was” but he’s probably still doing curls or something.

continuing to workout through injuries with heavy as shite weights. It was less his training style but more so his training style while injured and using painkillers to cover up the pain from the injuries

if you have legit back issues as in compression of the lumbar section, blown disk etc than its not a good idea to continue to ramp up the weights especially when you are already the #1 pro.

he could have stopped lifting nearly as heavy, moved to higher reps and volume back in 2000 or 2001 and he would be fine right now. His problem was always....i will not willingly give my title up to Jay Cutler who was nipping at his heals. Ronnie had an obsession and he felt like not training like he knew how was willingly giving the title to Jay.

well what you see is that approach combined with continuously training through legit injuries of the spinal and lumbar regions.

everyone wants to blame the heavy squats...wasnt the heavy squats. it was the heavy squats after already being injured.

it wasnt the heavy leg presses but if you have an extreme lumbar injury might want to not load Leg press up to 2300 pounds.

squats can be theraputive, but they can also wreck you if you dont listen to the body and take care of yourself.

but you see this in every sport. Look at Brady...considered the Goat pretty much by everyone, more money than god and he is now putting his marriage in jeoperdy because he refuses to give it up at 45 years old

there is a reason these people are consdered the GOATs or mentioned with them, they are obsessed and will do anything to come out on top.

Ronnies quote "Everybody wanna be a bodybuilder, but nobody wants to lift heavy arse weights" can be used for anything top level. Everybody wants to be successful but nobody wants to put in the effort successful people put into it.
