Cutting out soda/sweet tea UPDATE: 2 YEARS - HUGE milestone !!!
Posted by Lawyered on 7/9/18 at 1:13 am240
So I did this about 3 years ago and about 10 days ago, I decided to cut it all out again cold turkey.
I would drink a Dr Pepper at work then afterward get a Wendy’s/ CFA/ sonic/ assorted fast food dinner drink then refill with a can Dr Pepper .
It was getting out of hand. But I’m committed to sticking with water only, in case anyone else is struggling / wanting to do a big cleanse as well
Update post- Yes I have made it 2 entire years with no Dr Pepper/ Coke or Sweet Tea...
Mainly I did this as yes I am still overweight... type 2 diabetes runs rampant in my family and this was the concession I NEEDED to make.... My glucose levels are great... no issues at all.. and I'd like to keep it that way...
Bumping the thread primarily to show that yes it can be done, for people who were like me thinking there was no way you can kick soft drinks...
cheers to you all.

i love to taste something sweet, so i drink lipton diet green tea or if i want a soda fix, i buy the mini 7oz cans of diet 7 up or sprite.
Have you switched to diet soda? Diet Soda in moderation is fine, as long as your calories are in check.

I typically used to only have 1 soda a day, and it was a Coke zero with my lunch. I still do once a week or so, but otherwise cut out soda.. However, the caveat to that is when eating out I plow through tons of soda. So I no longer get soda when I eat out.. unsweetened tea or water for me.

I love coke zero too. I tend to drink most soda when im drinking, lol.
When i go to my parent in laws lake house(like this upcoming weekend), they have an endless supply of liquor and every regular and diet drink you can think of to mix it with. Hard to stay away, lol.

I switched t nothing but LaCroix at home and unsweetened tea out. I don't mind at all. The only thing I have to have sweet now is coffee. I have tried hard to not sweeten, but I cannot do it.
Blue Sky sugar free sodas are awesome once you get used to the mild stevia aftertaste. They're expensive so I buy a ton when on sale. Cola and root beer are favorites, followed by ginger ale if you squeeze lemon or lime in them.

Diet Dr. Pepper's from sonic were killing me. I'd get a large one everyday in the morning and then sometimes another in the afternoon, and while yes, they're diet, they were still limiting the amount of water intake that I needed and I started to catch headaches like crazy. I went cold turkey off of all caffeine for like three weeks, and the headaches stopped. Now I have a coke zero or unsweet tea every other week or so when I'm eating something salty, but rarely finish it.

I brew over two quarts of Earl Grey and toss it in the fridge.
Pour a glass and add 1 splenda to help cut the bitterness.

yea other than alcohol who in the hell still drinks soft drinks after college? Everyone I know that does that is fat as hell.
I used to drink about 3 cokes or dr peppers a day. Regular, not diet. Now I only drink them if eating fast food, which is about once or twice a month. Even then I sometimes get water. I don’t miss them much. I usually feel like shite after drinking one.
I do drink a 12 oz Gatorade with my lunch on work days though, and if I tried I know I could cut that out. I drink one or two cups of coffee every morning and I will not stop using real sugar in it until the dr tells me I’m diabetic. It’s usually less than a teaspoon per cup.
Beer is probably where I get most empty calories. 1-2 beers during the weekdays a few more than that on the weekends. It’s not always lite beer either.

after i dropped about 60 lbs in my late 20s, i swore them off.
i drink about 4-5 things. water, tea, coffee, beer, and liquor in their various forms.
my closest to a sugary drink is that i'll do a 1/4 lemonade in an arnold palmer. other than that i drink a coke about 2 or 3 times a year.
i like a coke when i get it, but not enough to start drinking them regularly again. when you move entirely off of them, you learn that you can 100% live without them.

I had a tough time getting off diet Coke. I was drinking four to six 12oz cans a day. I pretty much quit cold turkey. I may have one every other week or so if I'm at the ball park or eating out. I shed a pretty rapid ten lbs. Down to 175-180 ish. Which is pretty lean for me at 6'1

I drink a 4 or 5 bottles of water a day, two of which have the Diet Hawaiian Punch flavor pack in them. I drink one glass of Fairlife Whole Milk every day. If I drink coffe it’s Decaf Coffee with cream only.

I agree with this.
Soft drinks are gassy, aren't refreshing and don't quench your thirst. I can do without them except for alcohol.

Read about this on the food board and its the greatest. I've tried every brand available, but there is something magic in that Mexican water, especially the grapefruit. I no longer drink any sweet drinks, artificial or otherwise.
